Bio

With an eye-catching name and ear-candy songs to match, Nice Ass is on a mission to rock yours.

Nice Ass is four uber-smart Mensa-calibre women who feed their inner geeks and find common ground in music. With a lineup including two songwriter-instrumentalist sisters, Nice Ass whips together stick-to-your brain melodies, unforgettable lyrics, danceable rock grooves, expert musicianship, killer stage presence, sexiness and attitude like no other act.

The band, including med school student/keyboardist Sparkles, PhD candidate/drummer HeLLe, the Mystery Chick/bassist and professional web developer/guitarist Cherries, weaves together musical truths about their experiences with society at large, jobs, girls, BS in general, family, lovers, the music industry, themselves, and more. "People take themselves far too seriously, so we just rip on everyone, including ourselves," says Nice Ass founder, songwriter/guitarist and vocalist Cherries. "Add to that a healthy dose of long-term repressed frustrations and here we are."

Writing Upside-Down Girl about not feeling like she belonged anywhere, Cherries was encouraged when the song was awarded an Honorable Mention from the John Lennon Songwriting Competition. "This tune quickly became the top requested at all my live acoustic gigs," says Cherries. "I produced the song with a full band production, where it became the foundation for Nice Ass."

Cherries then wrote Miss Orange after a demo of Upside-Down Girl was snubbed by her and keyboardist Sparkles' pop star cousin, Pink.

"Sister Sparkles just so happened to end up at a party in LA where our cousin and some other pop singers were in attendance, and wow," says Cherries. "Seriously, you could fry an egg on these brats' attitudes. I was honestly hoping that Pink had somehow matured from spoiled little daddy's girl into something more substantive, but no such luck. So I wrote Miss Orange about a subject I think a lot of people can relate to--in this case, success going to someone's head."

Cherries continued writing songs in the vein of Upside-Down Girl and Miss Orange, all the while battling cancer and all that goes with it. "I was really down for a time--living in people's spare rooms, working two and sometimes three jobs just to pay for health services. After awhile I was too busy to be sick and more determined than ever to break into the music business with something really authentic, catchy and cool. I wanted four level-headed girl player-writers who had experienced the reality of living in Bush's lopsided America and had something to say--things to write from that people could really relate to--and most importantly to have some fun after all we've been through and just go for it!"

Now joined by HeLLe on drums and Mystery Chick on bass, Nice Ass launched its myspace in mid-December of 2006, and the band was encouraged by immediate attention and complements on its music. Cherries was asked to write a song for an upcoming TV pilot and the result was the fun, girl-band anthem "Simply Simone". Nice Ass is also slated to be the house band for the show when it gets to production stage.

Nice Ass will release a collection of songs in Summer, 2007 that will also feature bonus hand-picked dance remixes from some of the best DJs and club spinners on the scene. The band will then appear live in selected festivals as well as individual tour dates.
