Bio

Nicholas Barron is a Chicago Singer-Songwriter who is steeped heavily in the Blues, Folk and Soul traditions of the city. He has one of the most recognizable and unique voices you will ever hear. He is often compared to modern singer songwriters like Dave Matthews and Ben Harper. Listening more deeply, one hears the influences of Al Green, Otis Redding and John Martyn. His songwriting is both highly therapeutic and original but also influenced by both the beat writers of the 50’s and the 60’s, hip hop artist from Public Enemy to Eminem and the great Folk songwriters from Dylan to Leonard Cohen, whose emphasis is on the story and poetic language. Nicholas started as a street musician over 20 years ago and worked his way into playing in every space conceivable, often playing seven nights a week and sometimes two or three gigs per day. He also founded C.A.S.A. (Coalition for the Advancement of Street Art), a organization consisting of street artists and performers whose mission was to fight the city when they were trying to ban them from performing. Thanks to the Nicholas’s dedication to the First Amendment, street performers and artists are able to continue performing and still are to this day.

Nicholas has over 8 CD’s of original music under his own name and recently opened for Al Green, BB King, Maceo Parker and others. In 2007, James Taylor called Nicholas “undeniable as he introduced him as the launch artist for The New York Times emerging artist’s series at Joes Pub in NYC. He then signed with Candyrat Records (Candyrat.com) and in May 2007, released his first solo CD called “As I Am”.
