""Comfort Falls" - Nicholas"

Nicholas Nicholas, a project by Chris Masullo of Phantom Posse, is a swoony electronic pop crooner that feels like a vaporwave take on a John Hughes film. Comfort Falls is easy to get lost in—the album is full of smooth romantic melodies ready to lull the listener into a soft narcotic haze. But lurking under the opioid synth lines and the reverb clouds are detached lyrics that border on the sinister. Lines like, “You were nine years old, I was your best friend / Now I’m just your dead friend / Haunting you in evening / Answering your questions, staring at your collar bone,” are ostensibly harmless, but, when coupled with the veiled vocals and the faceless album art, make you question exactly who it is you’re communing with. Like Tom Jones from the depths of an ether trip. Like a lover from the uncanny valley. - Portals

"Nicholas Nicholas"

While there’s no doubt in my mind that Brooklyn’s Nicholas Nicholas draws some influences from Ariel Pink, he doesn’t let them overshadow his own style. Instead of falling into the trap of sounding like a duplicate he uses these influences as a building block for Comfort Falls: a debut album that features some of the most lush and dazzling tracks that I’ve heard all year. - Cassette Rewind
