Biography

With a quiet passion, songwriter Nick Gaultney dives headfirst into a melting pot of influences ranging from a cappella gospel to alternative, country to funk and fusion. He takes with him his own life lessons and perspectives, and swims back to the surface with a sound and a vibe all his own.

Driven by laid-back acoustic rhythm guitar and melodic bass lines, Nick’s music is colored with elements of folk, country, jazz, and even the occasional touch of rock. His lyrics, peppered with poetic metaphors, slightly mysterious at times, but entirely honest, paint pictures of spiritual and emotional struggle and triumph.

Breaking free from the guidelines for any single genre, Nick’s quest to mold stimulating music beneath a thought-provoking message takes full priority. His aim is to be nothing other than who he is, and to share that with the world through his songs.

Lyrics

Living it Free

Written By: Nick Gaultney

[Verse]
The world turns around each day
With no worry for consequences
You see it was made that way
Now the sun can rise and fall

[Verse]
A secret can leave you
With sound bites and apprehensions
Of the chatter that might ensue
Should the spot light land in your eyes

[Chorus]
The shadows that sometimes hide me
I'm willing to let you see
Or somebody else 'cause that's what can help us
Find our way through life living it free

[Verse]
The fear that annihilates
The chance for a public pardon
Will always exaggerate
The freedom found in a lie

CHORUS

[Bridge]
We can speculate as to what some would say
But show me, show me the need

CHORUS

Another Chance

Written By: Nick Gaultney

Another Chance

[Verse]
Sitting in the shade beneath a white oak
Giving up on a life he never chased
Just a glimpse into the sky

[Verse]
I get the picture he was only dreaming
He never tried to survive outside his own front gate
Now he sorely wonders why no one listened

[Chorus]
Oh, he walked away from something
Oh, with nothing in his hands
Singin' "oh, if I feel alright tomorrow
I may swallow all my sorrow and give 'em all another chance

[Verse]
Forgiveness is a noble thing to offer
Provided he who receives it was in the wrong
It's otherwise a bitter, backwards song

CHORUS

[Bridge]
Another chance
And they will gratefully accept

CHORUS

Stripping My Canvas

Written By: Nick Gaultney

Strippin’ My Canvas

[Verse]
I’m leavin’ my bags at the front door
Now I’m lookin’ above for all of my answers
Hang on, there’s somethin’ I left in my suitcase
Unlike the rest it’s not gonna grow like a cancer

[Pre Chorus]
I say and I do but I’m not

[Chorus]
I’m strippin’ my canvas, time to lighten the dark
All the colors and strokes, like a play, like a show, are hiding my heart
But I’m hopin’ and prayin’ that you will like what you see
Am I strippin’ my canvas or just singin’ to sing

[Verse]
I don’t even know where I am
Mama keeps sayin’ I need a little reflection
Though I am rolling my eyes at the thought
I suppose it takes a big man to ask for directions

[Pre Chorus]
Somehow I still think I don’t need a map

CHORUS

[Bridge]
It’s the heart that lies at the heart of the sickness
It’s the heart that knows what’s really inside

CHORUS

Seconds and Minutes

Written By: Nick Gaultney

Seconds and Minutes

[A]
Seconds and minutes and hours all turn into years
And all of those years, into memories, fair or cloudy
Comforts consume and convince me that I should be still
Quiet and still, in the shade of this hill

[B]
But now, now is the time to assume my place
Or I'll be drowning in all of my, all of my idle yesterdays
I'm tired of pretending and wishing that I could just fly
When I could just fly, and I'd see if I’d try

[Bridge]

[B]
Now, now is the time to assume my place
Or I'll be drowning in all of my, all of my idle yesterdays
Seconds and minutes and hours all turn into years
They turn into years, year after year
