The Comedy Green Room

I can just go back to annoying my family!

Nick Hoff grew up in the small town of Hastings, Nebraska where he discovered that laughter really is the best medicine for boredom. Landing in Los Angles in 2005 Nick decided to follow his childhood dream of making people other then his family laugh.

This funny young man has been doing stand up now since November 2005 but he has been writing and wanting to perform since Jr. High. Nick takes very simplistic and common ideas, give them a little twist, and hopefully the end result is funny for most people. Not eliminating any type of audience is one of his primary goals, which is part of the reason why Nick works clean.

Mr. Hoff has had the performing itch since grade school and during a family vacation “I was grounded by my parents half way through the week because I wouldn’t stop acting like Ace Ventura.” Comedy was not really a career option until someone gave Nick a Bill Cosby album that he listened to all the time. Reciting these routines back to family and friends Nick got laughs. “Looking back, that probably is what made me realize that I might want to pursue stand up sometime later down the road.”

Nick Hoff went to school in Indiana and moved out to Los Angeles to work in advertising and perform stand up comedy. Nick’s energy on stage is driven by both his rational and sometimes irrational fears that come from every day life. “A lot of my comedy is based around the fears that I have.”

Flash back to 3rd grade and young Nick was in the lunchroom at Watson Elementary School and everybody was talking about Steve Urkel from Family Matters. Then he chimed in with a dead on impression that made everybody at the table laugh.....”that was when I knew that I wanted to entertain as many people as I could.”

These days Nick just focused on always trying to get funnier and hopefully things will work out in the end. . He has rededicated himself to writing and performing as much as he can in 2007. “This is the time when I'll be working, working diligently crafting jokes in my cold drafty apartment.”

Fast forward to April 2007, Nick Hoff won the second round of eliminations at The Uncle Clyde’s Comedy Contest at The Ice House in Los Angles and this gives him a spots in the finals in November 2007. As well, Nick will send a week at The Ice House being the opening act to a major touring headliner, and will be invited to the Seattle Comedy Festival.

At 24 years old, the sky is the limit for this native of Nebraska. Having been tagged as an “unnoticeably clean” comic, Nick can always go back to annoying his family and everyone else’s family. And the last comic who was a native of Nebraska just happened to entertain everyone’s family before bedtime. Coincidence? I think not!

Thank you very much.
