"Nicki Gillis - Lucy's Daughter"

In my “Country Pickin’s column in the Bundaberg Guardian, in the week preceding Christmas, because of restricted space my thoughts on the following CD were drastically cut.  In fairness to the artist we are repeating it here in it’s entirety.
Here’s a name to watch out for in the future. Born and bred in Western Australia, and achieving considerable success in that part of our continent, Nicki Gillis decided to spread her wings and try her luck on the Eastern seaboard. Her new album, done under the guidance of Roger Corbett, should go a long way to making her a well known name in her new home. The CD, “Lucy’s Daughter” boasts twelve tracks, a lot of which were co-written by the young lady herself. Quite often, when listening to a new album from a new artist, singing unfamiliar tracks, all tracks have a certain sameness about them. This is not the case with “Lucy’s Daughter. Each track assumes
It’s own identity on initial contact. Here is a good mix of up tempo, and ballad numbers, the latter tinged with a “bluesy” sound that adds to their character.
Nicki, has already tasted a measure of success, having scored a top ten finalist placing in the 2005 Tamworth Gold Guitars New Talent of the year, and also finding herself in the top five in the 2005 Tiara Awards for songwriting.. Of the twelve tracks on “Lucy’s Daughter, perhaps Silverstein’s, “Ballad Of Lucy Jordan, and Nicki’s “Watch The Wildflowers Grow”, would battle it out for number one place..
