Nick Marks & Happy Hour are a soul/blues/folk band born in the east village of NY. Nicks songs offer romantic poetry with a free flowing structure leaving the door open for Happy Hour to add endless layers of dance and melody recreating that enchanting wirey timeless sound the village gave birth to.

Biography

Nick Marks arrived in NYC with a show booked, two pairs of jeans and a guitar.

Within a week he bumped into and jammed with Keith Christopher (Georgia Satellites, The Yahoos, Ray Charles, Richie Havens). Keith was keen to put something together for an east village showcase so he rung his good friend James Wormworth one of NYC's finest drummer (Stevie Ray Vaughen, Bo Diddley, Buddy Guy, BB King) and found a local venue.

The three played two sold out shows which resulted in a local independent offering to fund an ep which was recorded at Dangerouse Studios NYC.

The two days in the studio also saw the wonderful Paul Tillotson add keys and Brooke Lundy add vocals (and as a result join the touring band). 48 hours later the Transatlantic Sunflower Session were complete. All songs were recorded live using vintage equipment (leslies, whirly's, hammonds, rickenbacker amps, beat up gibsons and tape machines etc).

The final record is an enchanting blend of heart breaking songs over dark melodies with songs offering tales of false hope, lost love, the great escape and the endless search for peace of mind.

The session was free flowing with Nick writing/recording non-stop for the 48 hours he had been given. Press and Industry have compared the records sound to a darker Ryan Adams, Bright Eyes, Damien Rice and of course sixties Dylan. Nicks voice with its Cash/Cohen undertones combined with pauls keys create a deep soulful sound where as the country rock bass lines and delicate rolling beats of James give the music its strength and drive. The overall sound is something truely unique.

Two months later Nick returned to London to master the CD and get it ready for the long list of A&R departments who await its arrival.

Not even two months old, Nick Marks and Happy Hour already have a strong fan base, superb demo and genuine local buzz...

This buzz was confirmed with The bands re-appearance with two Sold Out NYC performances at The Living Room and Mercury Lounge just 4 weeks after Nicks departure from the city.

Label Interest continues to grow and with Nick now having recently joined Off The Menu Management & CEG Talent Agencies impressive roster (Tommy Lee, Marky Ramone, Grace Jones, DMX) things continue to look bright for the 24 year old south Londoner who managed to get lost in NYC.

Silver Tears

Written By: Nick Marks

Red Bloom and burgundy moon,
electric lights burn till noon,
there black eyes and velvet skies
at the railway staion where we said goodbye
lover take this kiss,
for its all thats left its all there is,
come ease my hand into the sinking sand for my lungs they will already be full,

Silver tears,
rolling down her chest,
for thats the way that I remember her,

Fallen love, caged dove, the opera in pearl gloves,
oh the skeleton chair screams as i i stare,
straight back through the early morning rain,
drips down by my toes the ceiling leaks and the puddle grows but theres no reflection just your face and its smiling from the other side of the world.

Silver tears,
Rolling down her chest,
for thats the way that I remember her,

Cold shame, sugar cane, blow up picture frames, theres locked doors and forgotten chores, ton ight honey you deserve so much more than another humble kiss,
but its all thats left it all there is, oh watch her man slip and land straight back in her hanbds again,

Silver Tears,
rolling down her chest,
for thats the way that I remember her

Endless lines of dust and vines,
they lead me to the sweetest wines,
where theres silk sheets and forbidden treats,
oh her thighs shake so hard she drops the knife down from the bloody floor,
oh cut my eyes out for what i just saw,
your beauty is unbarable it will drive me to my deepest despair,

Silver Tears,
rolling down her chest,
for thats the way that I remember her.

Let The Roses Burn

Written By: Nick Marks

have you ever felt the blackest sky,
cannonball to the back of your eye,
i dont know what its like to die but im becoming intrigued,

See if heavens forever beautiful,
and this world just gets more pitiful,
I better make my peace with Lord before I leave,

Thousand english roses burn by my gate,
I went to get a bucket but its to late,
Oh fuck it anyway,
let the roses burn.

I keep a box of memories underground,
theres a silver heart and a wedding gown magazine with circles around a few,

But before she could m ake her final choice casanova walked in and sealed here voice, but would he kiss those lips darling if he knew?

Thousand english roses burn by my gate,
I went to get a bucket but its to late,
oh fuck it anyway,
let the roses burn,

Now the doctors got a cure for every kind, from the broken hearted to the perverted mind, and the little boy lost in the movie scene,
well they will dos you up and knock you out, with a smile a wink a stare and a pout,
oh he went to sleep mad but man he woke up obscene.

Thousand english roses burn by my gate,
I went to get a bucket but its to late,
Oh fuck it anyway,
let the roses burn.
