Bio
What do you think it would sound like if Sly Stone, Steely Dan, early Chicago, Ben Harper and Jamiroquai ALL got together and recorded a record? Do you like music that's hard to categorize, but incredibly soulful and funky? Do you like music that nods to many different artists and styles, yet is uniquely it's own thing? Then read on and listen further, because this is what you're looking for. The music of Nick Rolfe is a culmination of styles, events and attitudes from days past and days to come. Rolfe has an extensive background as a jazz pianist playing and touring with the likes of Benny Golson, Reggie Workman, Abbie Lincoln, Russel Gunn and others, while also accompanying singers from the soul/R&B world such as Lizz Wright, Amel Larrieux, Julie Dexter and Alison Crockett. Combined with years of growing up listening to a BROAD range of artists
(Thelonius Monk, Stevie Wonder, Chicago, Bartok, Prodigy, D'Angelo, Jackson Browne, UTFO, Run DMC, etc) Rolfe has developed a style of music that is uniquely his own. Any listener can find something that appeals to him/her whether it's funky head bobbing grooves, lush chord progressions, insightful lyrics, high level musicianship, or energetic live performances. The Nick Rolfe Band is a tight knit group of very accomplished musicians who dazzle collectively and individualy for their prowess on their respective instruments and their dynamic interplay with each other. It's taken 3 albums to get the concept fully congealed, but now it's off and running (still with room to grow) and receiving critical acclaim nationally and internationally.
