Bio
Nicky Lawrence started her professional career in 2000 singing back-up for Ivana Santilli at the Montreal Jazz Festival, Musique Plus, the Reverb in Toronto, and at the University of Guelph. She continued to develop her singing at House music events in Toronto. She visited Britain in 2004 and 2005. During this period, Ms. Lawrence promoted "Dreamer" for Diaspora Recordings (UK) (http://www.diasporarecordings.com), which was produced as a 12" vinyl in March 2003. "Dreamer" reached the top ten UK underground mixes in the number 1 spot above Goapelle’s “Closer.” "Dreamer" includes remixes from Frankie Valentine, Sweet Abrahms and Mr.Kicks. “Dreamer” appeared in 2003 on the Honey Drops compilation (Maple Music) and in the Showtime television production Queer As Folk. "Dreamer" was recently included in the compilation, Soul Heaven Presents ‘Blaze’ (Defected Records, 2006).
In 2003, Ms. Lawrence was recruited as the lead female vocalist for Toronto's White Cowbell Oklahoma. Ms. Lawrence graced the cover of Eye Magazine with White Cowbell in 2003 (http://www.eye.net/eye/issue/issue_10.23.03/index.php). With the band, she embarked on a 20 stop tour of Canada's West coast. She performed at Austin's SXSW Conference with White Cowbell in 2004. She was featured with the band on the Mike Bullard Show (CTV) and Toronto One (Omni), and also appeared on Toronto One as a solo artist to promote “Dreamer.” Ms. Lawrence performed at the Winter Music Conference, 2004 in Miami.
Ms. Lawrence has collaborated with a variety of music artists, including Meher Steinberg, Ron Lapada (Jacksoul), and David Leitao (Pocket Dwellers, Dreamer) and Danny K. Currently, Ms. Lawrence is promoting her CD Vague (2006) with performances planned in Toronto and elsewhere in Southern Ontario and composing new material.
