Let's see...if I could describe my music in 30 seconds...I'd say I am trying to do something with my sound that I believe would be really cool in country music. I am a pianist and always have been. Singing and playing has been a part of my life since I was very little. I feel like we have strong, independent, and iconic female singer/songwriter/pianists in many genres...we have Alicia Keys, Sarah McLachlan, Norah Jones, Sarah Bareilles, and even Lady Gaga...but I want to make my mark in country

Biography

Nicky Rood, 21, is "a part of the top 2 percentile of 18-year-old pop vocalists in the nation" according to youngARTS, the leading organization in discovering young and up-coming talent. She is a youngARTS winner and a Presidential Scholar in the Arts semi-finalist.

She began private classical piano lessons at age six with a Manhattan School of Music professor. However, at age eleven, she found her musical calling: singing. Too shy to perform before any one as a child, it was not long until her confidence began to grow.

By the time she was 15, Nicky had written/recorded over fifty songs, performed solo at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Halll and Lincoln Center's Bruno Walter Recital Hall, starred in a dozen school musicals/plays, won Westchester Teen Idol, and recorded two singles in Philadelphia with Gwen Stefani's and Luther Vandross' producer. Rood has had the great privilege of meeting with prestigious record labels such as Capitol Records, Capitol/Virgin Records, and Warner Music Group.

Rood was commissioned to write and arrange the musical score to her high school production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in 2008 while a senior in high school.

Being a Type One Diabetic since 2004, she has been active in the diabetes community with her music. At age 13, she was summoned by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to write an inspirational song called "The River Flows On", which she performed at Trump Golf Club and at the organization's main Gala event. Her performance helped the foundation raise over one million dollars for a cure to diabetes.

Rood considered singing opera towards the end of high school. She was a Level 6 winner (Gold Medalist) in opera with the New York State Music Association, with whom she was a soloist. She performed with them at Purchase College's Performing Arts Center.

A strong believer in Christ, Nicky has been active with her music at church all of her life. She wrote and performed many times at church in New York, New Mexico, and Massachusetts. She collaborated several times with one of her biggest musical influences, bassist and jazz composer, John Patitucci.

Nicky Rood currently resides in Boston, MA where she attends Berklee College of Music on scholarship. She was featured in Berklee's "Rhythm of the Universe" concert as a soloist at Symphony Hall, a singer/songwriter/pianist in the prestigious "Singers Night" concert, 2 time Winner of the "Perfect Pitch" Songwriting competition, and 3 time Winning songwriter in a musical theatre competition called "Curtain Up". She is also a 2 time Winner of Berklee's prestigious Singer Songwriter Showcase and most recently won Berklee's Songwriting Competition. She debuted her music to "Technical Difficulties", an original one act musical she collaborated with at Emerson College, and she sang and wrote in Berklee's Country Ensemble for five semesters where she had the opportunity to sing with SUGARLAND's bassist, Annie Clemments. She performs frequently throughout the week in Boston and occasionally tours as a background singer and keyboardist for Shannon Selig.

She attended Berklee's five week summer program in summer 2008 on full scholarship and was featured in the Tower of Power ensemble, The Singer Showcase, and The Singer-Songwriters Showcase. After Berklee, she hopes to move to Nashville and pursue a career in songwriting and singing.

Without the love and guidance of Jesus, NONE of this would be possible. He continues to guide Rood every day as an artist and as an individual. Thanks to Him, her beloved family, friends, and fans for their endless support and love.

Lyrics

You Won't Know a Bad Thing (Til I'm Gone)

Written By: by Nicky Rood

You’re lookin’ for trouble
In a young blonde’s eyes
You’ll go through dozens
Cuz you’re never satisfied

You’re lookin’ for a good time
With a girl who bends the rules
Oh, don’t ya realize
That’s what I was born to do?

If no means yes,
And yes means more,
Then tell me what are you waitin’ for?
Your camera’s out of focus
When ya gonna notice me?

Chorus:
YOU WON’T KNOW A BAD THING TIL I’M GONE
YOU THINK LOVE’S AN AUDITION BUT YOU’RE WRONG
I’M DONE WAITIN’ ON YA, COWBOY
HOW YA LIKE ME NOW, BOY?
DON’T YA UNDERSTAND YOU’RE NOT THE ONLY MAN IN TOWN, BOY?
THEY’LL KEEP YOU CHASIN’ ALL NIGHT LONG
BUT YOU WON’T KNOW A BAD THING TIL IT’S GONE

Oh no you won’t be getting
Another chance
I’m one bad bullet
Come and get me while you can

I don’t know what you hope to gain
From a girl in size zero jeans
She’ll never be enough for you, no
She’ll never be me

I Don’t Care
Music and Lyrics by Nicky Rood

Verse:
You come around to say goodbye,
But instead you stay the night,
Then you’re gone before the sun has time to wake.

I try to call I try to text,
Try not to cry and do my best,
But I’m the phone-call you’re afraid to make.

Prechorus:
If you wanna be alone,
I gotta let you know that

Chorus:
I DON’T CARE if you never think of me, no
I DON’T CARE if we never meet again,
The pain and heartache are bruises I can bare,
But the hardest part is pretending that I DON’T CARE.

Verse:
It doesn’t sting, it doesn’t burn,
Each time I slip into your shirt,
The one you left behind to help me fall asleep.

I know it’s time to throw away
The broken mem’ries that I saved
You’re like tequila I’m afraid to keep.

Prechorus

Chorus

Bridge:
All my friends think I’m doin’ fine,
But movin’ on takes some time.

½ Chorus
I DON’T CARE if you never think of me, no
I DON’T CARE if we never meet again

Chorus 2x

Rather Be Alone Than Lonely

Written By: by Nicky Rood

Verse:
That road trip to nowhere was the best time of my life
Didn’t mind the traffic ‘cause you were by my side
Those days are like a song I used to know.
Been clinging to a mem’ry, too scared to let it go.

Prechorus:
I don’t wanna leave, I don’t wanna leave,
maybe we’re okay.
Baby can’t you see, baby can’t you see
I’m crazy if I stay?

Chorus:
Take your roses and excuses,
you can leave them on the shelf.
Don’t keep tellin’ me you’re sorry;
save your words for someone else.
I’m so tired of pretending
the way we always do.
I’d RATHER BE ALONE
THAN LONELY with you.

Verse:
Lovin’ you was easy, you never made it hard.
Now we’re strangers in the bedroom, and silent in the car.
If losin’ you means findin’ me,
I’m gonna take my chances though it’s far from easy.

you can leave them on the shelf.
Don’t keep tellin’ me you’re sorry;
Save your words for someone else
Cuz I’m done with pretending
The way we always do.
I’d RATHER BE ALONE
Oh, I’d RATHER BE ALONE THAN LONELY with you.

No Promises

Written By: Music and Lyrics by Nicky Rood

You can hold my hand at dinner
We can even share dessert
You can walk me by the river
We can stop to feed the birds

You can say you like my purple dress
The way it lights my eyes
You can say you’d like to meet again
But before you even try
There’s somethin’ I gotta do
One thing I ask of you

Chorus:
Promise me no promises
Say you’ll stay and do your best
But when you feel like runnin’ cuz you’re to scared,
I’ll let you leave
Promise me no promises

You can kiss me at the movies
I won’t care what’s on the screen
You can introduce me to your buddies
God I really hope they like me

You can hold me tightly in your arms
As we slowly fall asleep
You can say you’ll never leave this bed
But how can I believe?
That’s awful kind of you
But I must remind you

Chorus

Bridge:
I can be a little crazy
And afraid from time to time
I’m a broken record baby
But for you I wanna try
So let the music play
Don’t let it fade away, just

Together in September

Written By: Music, Lyrics, and Arrangement by Nicky Rood

I don't really know
where this thing is going
but it's getting me excited alright.
Ev'ry time your name
appears on my phone
I get a feelin' that's so hard to deny.

Oh you're three thousand miles away,
but that doesn't mean we can't say

Chorus:
We're gonna be TOGETHER IN SEPTEMBER
I don't mind waiting
though the summer's taking
forever, just remember
ev'ry little minute
I got without you in it
is leading to the moment when we’ll be
TOGETHER IN SEPTEMBER

If you were here today,
I'd throw my plans away
and take you over to the river now.
Share a bottle at the docks,
and hide it from the cops,
pretend like no one else is around

If you weren’t three thousand miles away
But that doesn’t mean we can’t say

I Don't Know How

Written By: Music and Lyrics by Nicky Rood (c) 2013

I can’t recall the last time
you said you loved me
and meant it with your eyes.

Seems like a century ago
you held me in your arms
and gave me butterflies

When I pictured forever,
and the life we’d build together,
I never pictured this.

I don’t know how we got here.
When did we lose our spark?
When I’m lyin’ next to you,
feels like we’re worlds apart.
I don’t know how this happened.
When did our love run dry?
It’s clear I need you, baby,
more than I realized.
Wanna make it right,
wanna make it better,
you can yell at the wind,
but it won’t change the weather
Gotta stop this hourglass from runnin’ out,
But I don’t know how.

By the time the waiter comes
to take our order,
we’re out of things to say.

Oh, I wanna reach for you
across the table,
but I’m scared you’ll pull away.

My heart’s being torn,
‘cause your hand’s on the door.
But I can’t just let you go.
No I can’t let you go.

CHORUS

But I don’t know what you need me to do,
would have done it if you asked me to
We’ve come too far to give up.

I don’t know how we got here
When did we lose our spark?
When I’m lyin’ next to you,
Feels like we’re worlds apart.
I don’t know how this happened
When did our love run dry?
It’s clear I need you, baby,
More than I realized.
Wanna make it right,
Wanna make it better,
You can yell at the wind,
But it won’t change the weather.
Gotta stop this hourglass from runnin’ out.
Don’t ask me to surrender now
cuz I don’t know how.
