Bio

Nicky Rood, 21, is "a part of the top 2 percentile of 18-year-old pop vocalists in the nation" according to youngARTS, the leading organization in discovering young and up-coming talent. She is a youngARTS winner and a Presidential Scholar in the Arts semi-finalist.

She began private classical piano lessons at age six with a Manhattan School of Music professor. However, at age eleven, she found her musical calling: singing. Too shy to perform before any one as a child, it was not long until her confidence began to grow.

By the time she was 15, Nicky had written/recorded over fifty songs, performed solo at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Halll and Lincoln Center's Bruno Walter Recital Hall, starred in a dozen school musicals/plays, won Westchester Teen Idol, and recorded two singles in Philadelphia with Gwen Stefani's and Luther Vandross' producer. Rood has had the great privilege of meeting with prestigious record labels such as Capitol Records, Capitol/Virgin Records, and Warner Music Group.

Rood was commissioned to write and arrange the musical score to her high school production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in 2008 while a senior in high school.

Being a Type One Diabetic since 2004, she has been active in the diabetes community with her music. At age 13, she was summoned by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to write an inspirational song called "The River Flows On", which she performed at Trump Golf Club and at the organization's main Gala event. Her performance helped the foundation raise over one million dollars for a cure to diabetes.

Rood considered singing opera towards the end of high school. She was a Level 6 winner (Gold Medalist) in opera with the New York State Music Association, with whom she was a soloist. She performed with them at Purchase College's Performing Arts Center.

A strong believer in Christ, Nicky has been active with her music at church all of her life. She wrote and performed many times at church in New York, New Mexico, and Massachusetts. She collaborated several times with one of her biggest musical influences, bassist and jazz composer, John Patitucci.

Nicky Rood currently resides in Boston, MA where she attends Berklee College of Music on scholarship. She was featured in Berklee's "Rhythm of the Universe" concert as a soloist at Symphony Hall, a singer/songwriter/pianist in the prestigious "Singers Night" concert, 2 time Winner of the "Perfect Pitch" Songwriting competition, and 3 time Winning songwriter in a musical theatre competition called "Curtain Up". She is also a 2 time Winner of Berklee's prestigious Singer Songwriter Showcase and most recently won Berklee's Songwriting Competition. She debuted her music to "Technical Difficulties", an original one act musical she collaborated with at Emerson College, and she sang and wrote in Berklee's Country Ensemble for five semesters where she had the opportunity to sing with SUGARLAND's bassist, Annie Clemments. She performs frequently throughout the week in Boston and occasionally tours as a background singer and keyboardist for Shannon Selig.

She attended Berklee's five week summer program in summer 2008 on full scholarship and was featured in the Tower of Power ensemble, The Singer Showcase, and The Singer-Songwriters Showcase. After Berklee, she hopes to move to Nashville and pursue a career in songwriting and singing.

Without the love and guidance of Jesus, NONE of this would be possible. He continues to guide Rood every day as an artist and as an individual. Thanks to Him, her beloved family, friends, and fans for their endless support and love.
