"BRTO Radio, Holland"

"Unconventional, pure and honest songs, rooted in emotion rather than fashion." - Jos Von Boom

"Indie-Music.com"

“the heart of a poet, and she writes like one too. Using words and her guitar the way a master woodworker uses tools, Gordon is able to create a thing of beauty that makes everyone around her whisper "Wow, I wish I could do that." Nicola Gordon wields her pen and her guitar like a scalpel, deftly cutting to the heart of the matter and exposing its secrets for everyone to see."
- Erik Deckers

"Santa Barbara Independent."

"...Nicola Gordon is a sort-of-folkie who …is just extra-traditional enough to throw off the scent of normality, while being grounded in solid melodic and lyrical ideas. Chaos Infinatum a CD by turns joyful and pensive, giving due credence to both poles."
- Josef Woodard

"Santa Barbara, CA"

“I really enjoyed your concert, even though I'm in a bit of an off place, going through some changes as the boys from CSNY used to call it. But the more I hear of your music, the more I hear connections with those heart things I deal with, that we all deal with...love keeps coming back...’haven't talked to you in a long time...I'll always love you’. Al l the good strong happy sad real stuff. It's good to share that with you, or rather I guess because of you, because it's from you…” - Jim Lawrence

"Thousand Oaks, CA"

“You are a very talented songwriter…My roommate cracked up when I mentioned some of the lyrics. You have a wonderful energy about you and of course it only adds to your performance. It's very rare to see a performer who not only entertains but also makes the audience feel very welcomed and comfortable. Your listeners come from all walks of life, very eclectic crowd...I love that!” - Wende Allyn

"New Times, San Luis Obispo, CA"

"...her voice positively soars.." - Glen Starkey

Bio

The Nicola Gordon Orchestra, as we jokingly call ourselves, has fun when we are playing. We have an organic folksy sound with a modern bend. Vince just got a new percusive instrument called the hung drum; it sounds somewhere between crystal bowls and steel drums. We slowed down and played a song with this new instrument last week at the local pub. The rowdy room suddenly got real quiet in sheer awe of this reverberation filling the creeky old walls of Cold Spring Tavern (probably the oldest standing building in Santa Barbara, CA). Never a dull moment.
My music definitely has an underlying message of healing and transformation. The title of my 3rd CD is," 2 cranes fly by, it's a gift take it". Long title, but very much stands for what my music is about: get real, get present, send love and appreciation and healing to the earth and share in the magnificence of the human experience.
Over the past few years, I have been putting Hafiz poetry (similar to Rumi--a Sufi Poet from hundreds of years ago) to music. Amazing words, timeless message. I am presently creating a new CD, twirling Hafiz's inspiration into simple sacred song journeys.
So if your looking for honesty, loving messages of fellowship, facing into reality, unusual and asymetrical juxspositions, our musical weave is unique and heart-opening; basically folk, but a sneaky, new and experimental view of it.
Joni Mitchel, Tom Waits, Ani DiFranco, Michael Franti, all good. Been listening to Tommy Jarrel-- old time fiddle music lately, and classical East Indian music. A wide and beautiful journey music is indeed.
Nicola sings down-to-earth, asymmetrically quirky music with a heart-tuggingly unique voice. Her songs run the gammet from uplifting to cathartic , all with a sense of playful authenticity. Whether in a band or solo, Nicola's music is about healing, getting real and growing more into love and connection.
