Bio

Nicole Miglis is a singer-songwriter from Melbourne, Florida. Through fellow friends and musicians, she recently became a member of the local record company Team Grizzly. In 2004, at the age of 17, Nicole released her 6-track EP Development One, using a Yamaha P-70 electronic piano, a MacBook, and some help from her co-Team Grizzly member Will Farina. Many people compare her music to the likes of fellow female artists Fionna Apple or Norah Jones, though Nicole claims to have followed and drawn inspiration from neither. Having studied classical piano since the age of five, Nicole draws much of her inspiration from the music she studies under her long-term teacher Irina Wolynez. “I was learning and listening to a lot of Chopin and Beethoven at the time,” Nicole said. “I was also influenced by the Smiths, a few small bands from around Florida, Cat Power, the Pixies, and Iron and Wine,” Nicole added. Nicole has won several state-wide piano competitions sponsored by the Florida Federation of Music Clubs. In early 2007, Nicole won a county-wide Young Artist competiton sponsored by the Florida Space Coast Philharmonic, earning her the opportunity to play a Beethoven concerto with the orchestra later this year. She plans to double major in piano and physical therapy at the University of Florida in Gainseville, Florida. In addition to the piano, Nicole studied flute for five years and began playing the guitar out of admiration for one of her musical heroes, Bob Dylan. Nicole also claims to be a huge fan of the Arcade Fire and artists Joanna Newsom and Sufjan Stevens.
Her future plans include a fuller full-length album, encorporating drums, bass, banjo, and flute. She hopes to release a full-length by September 2007.
