"Finding Foxes at the Frequency"

GRAMMY U Presents
NICOLE RAE: FINDING FOXES AT THE FREQUENCY
BY MICHAEL J. MEISEL
CONTINUED FROM MAIN PAGE
Let’s just say that Nicole Rae is one the finest performers/songwriters out there. There is no stopping her wildly
charismatic stature. Anyone she is on a bill with usually gets shown up to an extent no less than a curby. I don’t want
to sound too effusive, but I LOVE THIS GIRL! This past week it was Daphne Willis who was outshined the way the
night stars fade with the arrival of the sun. Whether her hands are bleeding from forcing a drum kit into climax,
strumming on the guitar while donating her lungs to a harmonica like a young Bob Dylan made a baby with Karen O,
or captivating the crowd with her passionate voice, crisp lyrical enunciation and volcanic stage presence, Nicole Rae
does it all and then some. Songs like Mamas and Papas and Inside the Mountain will capture your mind and soul in a
cloud of exhilaration. Needless to say, you won’t be interested in hearing anything other than her for a while. You may
even be enticed to hire her to sing you songs while you lay in your cozy bed at night. You probably won’t be able to
sleep though. The riotously hilarious interludes of comedic banter between on-and-off bassist BiL Solomon and Nicole
Rae steal the audience’s attention from redundant tavern table-talk and swell the entertainment of such a rare and
special find. You’ll never see the same show twice. That’s the beauty of great musicians. For a solo artist in the
Madison area who performs with random musicians on a daily basis, it really doesn’t get any better.
Although Nicole is content with her current standing as a prominent booking act and isn’t especially interested in
selling her soul to any sort devilish label, her debut studio album (Chasing Foxes) is readily available for anyone
interested in purchasing it. Get it soon though, as there is a slim supply of this limited edition. Check out some of her
songs and videos at www.myspace.com/nicoleraemusik. - Grammy U Magazine

Bio

Nicole Rae is a multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter native to WI. She has moved all over the country and has opened for numerous national touring acts such as Canja Rave, Daphne Willis, The Mike Bjella Brass Band, Scratch Track, Shinobi Ninja, and many more. After spending a few years in Colorado, writing, street performing, and exploring the San Miguel mt. range she came home to re-root and to record her first studio album, "Chasing Foxes", in Madison, WI. Nicole Rae has been in several bands aside from her solo career including Infinity Theory, Nicole Rae and BiL Solomon, and now Nicole Rae and band The Hammer Bros. In a way, it's difficult to throw Nicole into a specific genre or to claim that she sounds like anyone else, but her talent and influence has been compared to Patti Smith, Bob Dylan, Karen O, Pat Benetar, Incubus, and Stevie Nicks. What separates her style and musicianship from others is her comfort and passion of stage performance, her charismatic stature, and beautiful songs. This girl can silence an audience, or have them in an uproar from her passionate songs and interludes of comedic banter. The number one thing to know about Nicole Rae is that music is her life, and whether you are listening to her album in your car, or watching her perform on stage, she will make you feel that passion.
