....I really started paying attention to the music when Fogatron and Nico Luminous of Luminous Fog (one of my top 5 favorite Portland bands) picked up the mics. Trading off complex beat-box sounds, the duo stunned the crowd with a full band sound emanating from only two mouths. Things got a bit more interesting when Q-Ben was joined onstage by Nicoluminous; a high energy beat box loop rapper who free styled over the beat/bass combination of Q-Ben. Nico got the crowd involved and kept things lively and hopping. Expertly mouthing sounds machines have trouble making, he looped and controlled several tracks simultaneously via controls on his “Tool belt”. Nico Luminous...BeatBoxer, MC, DJ, Producer and Multi-instrumentalist is dropping Hiphop Future Dub and Bass beats everywhere he goes. His newest album "Meet Tha BeatWagon Bwoy" showcases his mouth beats, glitchy rhythms, conscious lyrics, layered vocal harmonies and and organic production skills. Hailing from Portland Oregon, his unique sound is universal and reaches beyond genre and age. Stage shows incorporate live laptop performance of his original compositions, beatbox looping, Rub-a-Dub MC flows.
Having opened for the likes of KRS ONE, The Digable Planets, Lyrics Born, Anthony B, and Ky-Mani Marley has showcased Nico as a dynamic solo artist or band leader. He's played main stages at premiere West Coast festivals like Earthdance, Seattle Hempfest, and Emerge n' See with his HipHop/Funk/Reggae band "Luminous Fog" and other projects. When performing solo, Nico uses his human beatbox and MC skills matched with a custom looper pedal/effects belt to create organically fat beat loops and musical textures. Mostly Hiphop beats with a psychedelic dub twist, the beats are the foundation for songs and rhymes with spiritual awareness, social realness, and steady stream of positive messages for upliftment on the dance floor. Luminous is renowned for the clarity in his lyrical delivery as well as rhythmic trickery and melodic nuances in his raps. Improvisation and freestyles are seamlessly incorporated with no two shows are ever exactly the same.
As a recording artist and producer Nico's official debut release in 2007, "UNSTOPPABLE" featured KRS ONE and Vaughn Benjamin of "Midnite". Electro-organic beats and his signature lyrical style ride Hiphop grooves while also venturing into Dancehall and Downtempo. The music video for "Get Through" was shot in Jamaica, and is playing regularly on Jamaican television airwaves.
