“This album brings back the magic of notebooks. I remember when my notebooks held the magic of the rhymes I had written, and it was truly magic in them. Nieve's notebooks have tapped into that magic well and definitely weave spells on the listener. Even the music makes me see the notebooks. Cook (Orpheus around here) absolutely brings some true heat on this album as well. This could have come out during the Low End Theory days and fit right in. A mixture of jazz and Hip Hop with awesome LIVE instruments and wonderful vocals provided by Jean Curley I'm glad I got to review it because I'm rotating in the ride heavily. Anime Superhero - Great way to start. The beat is cool as hell and it's a head nodder. The hook stays in your head and the delay FX were done well! I like this song a lot. The scratches are tight. Lyrics are really good, back to notebooks!Do yourself a favor and take a step back in time, Nieve is keeping hiphop alive!” - Relic - IllMuzik

Living on the East Coast, it isn’t too often that I make a cross-country visit to California. In fact, the only time I have been to The Golden State was a layover in San Francisco. That might have to change, however, because on California, an aptly-named ode to his home state, DJBooth newcomer Nieve officially has me convinced that I need to make my first real visit real soon. Producer Soulchef stays true to his name, cooking up an airy, soulful West Coast inspired beat perfect for Nieve and guest Tunji to rattle off some of the reasons as to why Cali is oh-so-great. If both emcee’s fluid rhymes don’t paint a picture of the Left Coast’s lifestyle, perhaps the visuals, which highlight a few cool spots, will do the trick. For more laid back, breezy cuts, check out Nieve’s latest album Playback, out now. - Dj Booth

Still working on that hot first release.

Classic, Jazz inspired HipHop, Los Angeles based emcee Nieve has a lyrical style that is smooth, poetic, and soulful. Nieve has been rapping and making music since he was kid, perfecting his skills in numerous hiphop shows, rap battles, and open mics across LA. His rhymes are inspired by artists such as Nas, Mos Def, Gangstar and Wu-tang as well as from Jazz artists, like John Coltrane and Miles Davis.

His first album "Away with Words' gained the attention of Tokyo hiphop label "Goontrax" and was released in Japan in 2008. This led to further collaborations in Asia, where his singles and albums have topped the Itunes hiphop charts in Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Since then, Nieve has continued to gain a strong following in Europe as well, releasing music and performing in London, Paris, and Amsterdam. Now that he is back home in Los Angeles, Nieve is focused on making his mark in the US market, in the same way he did overseas. His group album "KRBL Rebel Radio" with fellow LA emcee's Noah King and A-Dub, is available now, as well his latest Goontrax released album; "Fly Coast" featuring Tokyo-based singer Ai Nimoniya and DJ Chika aka Inherit. Nieve's upcoming solo album. "Big Dream Kid" will also be released soon through Goontrax.

Nieve's mix of silky smooth rhymes, jazzy flow and unmistakable mellow tone, create a soulful classic sound. HIs music is sure to become a welcomed addition to any hiphop fan's music library.
