"Meet Nigel Lloyd"

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nigel Lloyd.

Nigel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Since junior high; I was always known for singing and dancing (I most definitely don’t dance anymore, lol), but it would be cool to get back to that. Listening to artists; such as Usher back then really inspired me to become an artist, but there were no real opportunities in my hometown. So, throughout high school, I would record at a few of my friends’ places: whether it be out of their room closet or whatever. We would let people back at school hear some of the stuff’ some good feedback and others not so good, due to the quality of some of the stuff, but I never gave up. It only made me want to go harder.

I ended getting in this group by the name of L.C.B; which later on became S.G.M Click. It was with two good friends, who just so happened to be brothers (Mick and Devin Dudley). They were rappers; I was the only singer. This lasted up into the second semester of my freshman year in college, we all attended the same school. Soon after the disbanding of the group; I continued to pursue the music as a solo artist. I found myself as a free spirit, recording where I could. Recording which artists and producers such as: Jah Jr, a hometown native of Dublin, Ga(my city!), Grim and G of G-Style Muzik Group, Jerrell “Rell” Turner (awesome producer) from 9Tweleve Entertainment and Patrick “Sage Dubbski” Tennerson from Ellohbee (music group) these guys really helped me a lot when I was in Savannah, Ga.

My junior/senior of college, I released my first EP on datpiff.com. I thought it was going to catapult my career, at that time lol, but I didn’t have a true understanding how marketing/advertising music worked. I put a lot of time and money into it from buying/leasing beats, paying for studio time and etc. (some of the same things I do today, but on a different level of understanding) and around this time is where I met one of my good friends until this day, Dermaine Gaskins of 3Vizions Media. He designed my first cover art free of charge! We’ve been rocking ever since and of course, I pay him now, lol, and oh how could I forget?! This was also around the time where I Joined Pretty Fly Society. They’ve always helped with exposure, even till this day!

But soon after I graduated from Savannah State University; I auditioned for ‘The Voice’. It was a very awesome experience, but unfortunately, I didn’t make it passed the producers lol, but I was no stranger to such auditions, for I tried out for ‘American Idol’ right before my senior year of high school. So, this just motivated me to take things into my own hands. So, I got back to the grind! I went back to writing, recording, performing at events and showcases. I dropped a few singles. then I eventually dropped my first LP titled ‘Law of Attraction: Affects of Love’ and from this came my single ‘Don’t Sav Her’, which we shot a video for, got about over 11k views to youtube.

As to where I stand now, after taking some time to re-strategize. I created my own music company Opulent Xound Xchange LLC, and I’ve been working alongside Chelsey Williams; with marketing, social media handle, PR and array of other things. She’s a freaking beast! I dropped a new single ‘Rain’ in February of this year and we’re gearing up to drop another single ‘Squeeze’ by the end of summer ’19!!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wish! Lol. Well, to start off, my demographic background wasn’t the best, but I never knew how bad it was until coming out of it. With my mom being a single parent and having to witness her struggle affected me in some ways and not having the type of relationship I wanted with my dad at the time, but I can truly say we’re all in a better place now. God turned it around and now, I’m blessed to have four loving and supporting parents!

It was a struggle a lot of days honestly though; with me being the eldest on both sides of my family, there was and still is a lot expected of me. Being the first to graduate high school and to go on to graduate college. Often days, I would find myself contemplating if I should continue to pursue my music because it was bringing in any money at the time. I felt I needed to lead by example and music wasn’t doing it at the time. I was working odd or dead-end jobs just to get by and fuel my music endeavors. I felt like I wasn’t moving fast enough and to throw a harsh break up on top of it, put the icing on the cake! lol

But nonetheless, I continued to push through, put my experiences on wax and then I came across a large opportunity, that I know no one, but God orchestrated. I wrote a jingle for this personal injury law firm and let’s just say it paid pretty well. I knew it was a sign from God telling me to keep going and showing me there’s so much I can do with my music and my business degree together!

We’d love to hear more about your company.
My company Opulent Xound Xchange LLC; deals with anything music or entertainment wise. We deal with everything from features, songwriting/ghostwriting, commercial and music (jingles) and so much more.

As a company, I’m most proud of being independent, having complete creative control and ownership of all my music.

What was you like growing up?
Oh gosh! Now, I have to think. Lol, but I could say I was very outgoing. I was pretty laid back like I am today and a pretty simple guy. I live by “less is more.”

Bio

Dublin, GA born Nigel Lloyd, promising R&B singer is here to make sure R&B stays in its rightful place. As Jagged Edge, Boys2Men, Jon B, and Ginuwine blazed through his adolescent ears, Nigel Lloyd absorbed the melodies one note at a time. Around 2008 Nigel Lloyd began to take music seriously once he received positive reactions from his peers.

Since, he's released, So Far 'Law Of Attraction/Affects Of Love' (Feb 2018), and the latest Single 'Rain' (Feb 2019). Nigel Lloyd's sound can be described "old school, with new school swag," nostalgic 90's/00's R&B cadence mixed with the sounds of what's relevant.

Nigel Lloyd continues to record and perfect his craft!
