Nigel Soyer - You In Me

January 05, 2006
By Cherisse Stephens

Don’t you love it when the industry discovers that fresh new voice and thrills us all with wonderful praise from an “unknown”? Well, that’s about to happen with the release of gospel recording artist, Nigel Soyer. Nigel is a talented brother who got his start with his first solo project I Am Here. But it’s clear to all that he’s not finished! As I checked out his latest offering You In Me, I knew Nigel had discovered what he’s called to do.

You In Me begins with the title track. From the first beat, the urban sounds of guitar and drums fuse together beautifully. This is easily a love song to the Lord or whoever! Yes, Nigel has a smooth vocal technique that will have you swaying and praising. The song simply states You In Me, You’re so lovely and no one can take your place. You are every beat of my heart. Wow, awesome, awesome!

Nigel slows it down with songs Like I Depend On You and You Bring Me Joy. It’s clear that he is in love ya’ll…with Jesus, of course. These are beautiful ballads that will have you thinking about the incredible love of Jesus. This project displays great musical instrumentation and lovely background vocals.

If you feel like dancing and celebrating, then you’ll enjoy Just Like You and The Blood. Nigel puts it down with undisputable grooves and inspiring lyrics. Nigel sings so passionately throughout this entire project. He really makes you feel like he believes what he’s singing about. I don’t about you but I’m trying to Just Like Jesus! Nigel sings about the agape love of Jesus Christ. C’mon everybody, wave your hands in the air and wave them like you…really care!

The young folks will really appreciate this wonderful alternative to R&B. I really love cut #6 entitled It’s Just Between You and Me. It’s got that reggae sound that will have you sipping on Kool-Aid and praising at the same time (smile). The words say there’s nothing that I’ve done to deserve your love, it’s just between you and me, you’ve given me your heart and your love, it’s a love that will never die. Yeah Maun!

Soyer keeps it real with I’ll Be There which talks about the real disappointments we face as believers. But it’s so good to know that there’s no need to fear, because Jesus is there. This mid-tempo urban cut is smooth and Nigel will show his vocal ability to get the message across.

Anybody ever heard of the R&B artist Babyface? Well, close your eyes and that’s whom you think you’re listening to on You Are My Refuge. It’s so beautifully done with guitar and drums. It also has that Boyz II Men feelin'. I don’t know, I hear so many wonderful sounds on this cut. The song says Lord you are my refuge, a place I can find, into your arms peace and rest I find. Sing Nigel, sing…

I Still Love You is a passionate song about the prodigal son. The song speaks volumes about loving God even though you may have strayed away. There are no words I can ever express either (you’ll have to listen to the song to know what I’m talking about). This is a beautiful love song to the Lord. Some songs are sung about the Lord but this one is sung TO the Lord. He’s got to be listening, because it’s worship at it’s fullest. When you get down to tracks and 10 and 11, you’ll see that Nigel is not playing about his worship to the Lord. Holy is really heartfelt and Nigel sings skillfully to the Lord.

Why will have you thinking about the sacrifice that Jesus made for us on Calvary. I mean I know I’ve said beautiful about 10 times throughout this review, but I think this is my favorite cut. The words simply describe the way Jesus loves us, and how He gave His life for us. There is no greater love or greater gift!

Nigel takes us out with Because Of You and the remix to The Blood. This is definitely new music for a new generation. Are you ready for Nigel Soyer? 'Cause, he’s definitely ready for us.

"Nigel Sings for the Lord"

Nigel Soyer wants to spread the word of God throughout the world. That’s why he gave up singing rhythm and blues for gospel. On the tracks of his album I am Here, you will meet with a man who is truly committed to sharing his beliefs. His voice deep and smooth, oozes with sincerity.
Nigel admits that as a born again Christian, Fred Hammond and Helen Baylor, has helped this young star to stay focused.
Born in Trinidad, Soyer remembers growing up with the dream of becoming as successful as Michael Jackson, Boys II Men and Jodeci.
After singing with Grant, he was almost certain that that’s what he wanted to do, to become a successful Rhythm and Blues star. Nigel’s ambition soon changed. In the middle of his R&B debut, when he says, the Lord told him differently.
It didn't take too long for his producers to be convinced that Soyer was on to something good.
