Nigel Tay

Nigel Tay is firstly a singer, a songwriter and a multi-instrumental musician based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. His main goal and passion is to make music that both musicians and non-musicians can appreciate. He also stands strongly by the practice of self-expression through music, regardless of its style.
Starting of as a drummer at the age of 5, Nigel also picked up other instruments such as the piano, bass guitar and acoustic guitar. At the age of 20, he finally started pursuing singing, making it his principal instrument. He now specializes in R&B and Pop music, both old school and new school.
Nigel is also currently concentrating on the art of songwriting. The themes of his songs are usually based on expression of emotion, current situations or happenings in the world, life experiences, and desired messages to be brought forth like the gospel of Jesus Christ. The reason is for people to be able to relate to his music. Similar to a customer enjoying a chef’s masterpiece, the feeling of achievement he strives for when a person appreciates and relates to his music is one of his driving forces, right after his love for God. On a more musical note, pop/R&B/acoustic would be the best description of the style of his music. Live instruments such as the guitar, piano, and occasionally the drums, are his starting tools in writing a song.
Although songwriting is what Nigel is concentrating at the moment, what he really enjoys and is equally passionate about is performing – the way he started getting involved in music. Whether it is a solo act with just his guitar and him, or with a full band, the joy of performing can always be seen in him.
In the process of learning and exploring the depths of songwriting, Nigel continues to find ways to combine songwriting and performing as he equally enjoys both as much. He continues to strive for this so he can achieve absolute self-expression, with his own lyrics and performance. As he does this, he works to make his music relational to both musicians and non-musicians, for a musician’s perspective of music could be different from that of a non-musician.
As Nigel continues to further improve his musical and songwriting skills at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. He also continues to strive for the chance to make an impact in this world, moving hearts and saving souls, carrying out the great commission, through his music and lyrics, one soul at a time.
