NIGHT BY NIGHT ‘CAN’T WALK AWAY’
Strutterzine, Holland

NIGHT BY NIGHT is a new Melodic Rock sensation from London, UK and the funny thing is that the involved people do not have a real background in the Melodic Rockfield, because the band is formed around 80s Gothrockers SISTERS OF MERCY guitarist BEN CHRISTO and their first 3-tracks counting debut EP CD ‘Can’t walk away’ has been produced by ROMESH DODANGODA (FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE…). Nevertheless, the included songs are pure 80s Melodic Rock bliss, sounding like a cross between HIM, HAREM SCAREM circa ‘Mood swings’, DEF LEPPARD and 80s BON JOVI. Although very 80s orientated, with such catchy singable anthem choruses like “Can’t Walk Away” and “The Moment”, the band still has an updated sound for today’s Rock format. I am quite sure fans of H.E.A.T., BROTHER FIRETRIBE and THE POODLES might be enjoying this a lot and mentioned uptempo Melodic Rockers are songs that will make them dance and party all night long! Who knows a full-length CD might make this NIGHT BY NIGHT the Melodic Rock winner of 2010! More info at: www.nightbynight.co.uk and e-mail them at: band@nightbynight.co.uk

"Laestadea review of 'Can't Walk Away'"

ENGLISH VERSION

Ben Christo, guitarist of Sisters of Mercy and disc jockey of the most famous clubs of London (Decadence, Sin City), introduces the second work as the frontman of his side project, Night By Night. If in the previous one they were newcomers, in this they prove they’ve come to stay.

The producer of Bullet For My Valentine and Funeral For A Friend, Romesh Dodangoda, builds up a sound at the height of legends. Simple and straight, but powerful and with a bite, the three British added to the Spanish Moyano El Buffalo on drums, seduce ear and heart. The devoted performance of Christo –which reminds the desperate of Crash Diet and the passion of Cutting Crew and of Mr Mister-, it’s the hand that throws the glove for the duel, in which the quarrelsome guitars Andy Taylor stylesque and the drums in Cinderella stylesque only get satisfaction with a tough combat to death.

Heartbreaking, as an open hurting that tends to weep, on the contrary to Dokken, it is not showed as an attack and condemnation to the former lover, but as a private pain, in which prevails melancholy, introspection, and the fear about the next step. Like Whitesnake, they worship the power of love, but where Coverdale get obsessed by sliding it in, they insist on the feeling.

The reluctant to settle and close a outdated relationship it’s the main idea of the single, Can’t Walk Away, which with its repetitive chorus could be the soundtrack of any 80s movie. Next song, The Moment, immerse oneself deeper in the sadness and daydreaming; if Bullet For My Valentine suffered because of the absence, they almost perish because of the silent presence that denote the end (“A single word/Her empty eyes/The final breath before our language dies/So incomplete …”). Closes the album It’s Not Faith, in which with boasty attitude they assure that being sensitive it’s not against having balls (“It’s not faith/ I’m not runnin/, Now it’s the time/We’re holding the line”).

The minimalist cover–black background with white letters- represents the night; the back cover, with the band posing in a dead end, represents the day. The good guys that tell about the Darkness of soul take the baton of the power of Night Ranger and of Def Leppard and of the compositive talent of Corey Hart and of Richard Marx. The future of hard rock it’s already here.

"Melodic-Net Review of 'Can't Walk Away'"

Myspace is a wonderful place to find new great acts. Night By Night is new music sensation from London, fronted by Sisters Of Mercy guitarist Ben Christo. This four-piece act has released an awesome EP produced by Romesh Dodangoda of Funeral For A Friend, The Blackout and Bullet For My Valentine fame. The sound of their EP is just amazing and it’s filled with fantastic hooklines, melodies and huge rockers that blew me away. When I heard the first riffs from the first song Can’t Walk Away, I was stunned by the quality. The song is just fantastic with brilliant melodic riffs, big hooks and a damn catchy chorus in the best Danger Danger, Hansel, Crazy Lixx-style and some touches of Rick Springfield . The harmonies are just superb and, yes, this is prime-time modern AOR mixed with classic 80s touch. The vocals from Ben Christo are powerful and he sounds outstanding with great feeling. It’s Not Faith is another fantastic rocker with riff strong guitars and the chorus is catchy with powerful background vocals. The Moment leans more into modern rock but it’s still damn melodic and they know how to catch your attention with great hooks and a memorable chorus. This is a fantastic EP filled with first-class songs and top-notch production . I hope they can deliver a full-length album with same quality and I can’t wait to hear more songs from this awesome band. - Jahu Harjula

"Rockingboy review of 'Can't Walk Away'"

Wertung: 8

"Music-news.com review of 'Can't Walk Away'"

London-based outfit Night By Night are blessed with qualities rarely found amongst the current rock scene: while many bands simply count on their sex appeal rather than their skill, Night By Night possess both – in spades. Praised by the global press as 'a force to be reckoned with', the band is bound to impress fans on a global scale, too (they’ve already toured Scandinavia, Germany, Poland and Switzerland). In addition, the mere fact that they played support slots for legends The Quireboys and London After Midnight (to name but a few) should erase any last trace of doubt.

Fronted by Sisters Of Mercy guitarist Ben Christo, the quartet furthermore consists of second guitarist Iain Frisk, bassist Jonny Thornton and drummer Moyano El Buffalo (now there’s a name for a band!).

Their sound is best described as melodic and classic rock with a contemporary twist, emphasised by intense guitar riffs, catchy vocal harmonies and a production that is proof of the band’s superb craftsmanship. Formed in 2008, Night By Night have just released their new EP 'Can’t Walk Away’ (produced by Romesh Dodangoda of Bullet For My Valentine fame).

The EP (available to download from iTunes) delights with three tracks - the title track 'Can’t Walk Away’, as well as 'The Moment’ and 'It’s Not Faith’. Each song bursts with an anthem-like chorus, much in the vein of bands such as Europe, early Cinderella and Def Leppard. There are more edgy elements, too, akin to Mötley Crüe or even L.A. Guns. Especially 'It’s Not Faith’ with its upbeat rocking guitar intro is bound to be a crowd-pleaser during the band’s many live concerts.

The lads describe their music as 'songs that come to life in darkness', hence the name Night By Night. However, I beg to differ. Their songs come to life and make you feel alive regardless whether it’s dusk or dawn.

Bio

“All the best bits of the 80s rock scene, combined with the total relevance of today”
- Joel McIver, Metal Hammer

“A throwback to the days when melodic hard rock ruled the airwaves, there’s no mistaking the identity of Night By Night’s boyhood heroes – but the band performs with a skill and confidence
that does them credit."
- Dave Ling, Classic Rock

“Classic, kick-ass AOR by the Night Ranger of now. Top notch!”
- Tim Jones, Record Collector

Hailed by the British and international rock press as a force to be reckoned with on a rock and metal scene that has become sterile, this London-based five-piece – featuring The Sisters of Mercy guitarist Ben Christo – have made giant steps since their formation in 2008 and are poised to make an enormous impact with their debut album, produced by Romesh Dodangoda of Funeral For A Friend, Kids in Glass Houses, The Blackout and Bullet For My Valentine fame.

“We wanted to form a group that took its influences from the more profound bands of that era – who crafted their songs and musicianship before crimping their hair!” laughs Christo, who is joined by Daniel Rossall (lead vocals), Tom Daniel (guitar) and Jonny Thornton (bass and vocals). “There's a lot of complexity in the songwriting of, say, Def Leppard, but it’s done so artfully that it enhances rather than inhibits the flow. This was our vision.”

The secret behind Night By Night’s music is their modern update on classic rock, with its fusion of searing guitar riffs, widescreen vocal harmonies and a flawless modern production that casts a powerful spotlight on the band’s superb musicianship. You’ll hear classic Def Leppard and Bon Jovi in the Night By Night sound, but there’s plenty of unexpected (but awe-inspiring) creativity from the schools of Faith No More, Sevendust and AC/DC too.

If you need any more reasons to spend some quality time with Night By Night, just ask the thousands of fans who have witnessed their support slots with rock legends such as Y&T, The Quireboys, Heaven’s Basement, Adam Bomb, London After Midnight, Kory Clarke of Warrior Soul and Dear Superstar. They’ve toured the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Poland, with more international dates stretching into the future.

“We are melodic, intense, uplifting and totally for real,” says Christo. “Worldwide, a hell of a lot of people are already relating to our music, because we strive for good lyrics and big anthems."

Night by Night's debut album is due for release spring 2012.
