Bio

NNT filters a love of funk, chanson-style ballads, guitar shapes and the dancefloor. The result has been described as 'bridging a seemingly unassailable gap between Joy Division and Scissor Sisters...effortless pop nous (The Skinny magazine).

This soundclash is forged by the sea in Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland by two incomers. Frenchman Fabien Pinardon and Sean Ormsby from Ireland have written, recorded, arranged, played, produced and mixed these songs from 2007 to today. Others have helped along the way.

NNT's debut album Ronde de Nuit appeared on the band's own Permwhale Recordings in April, 2008. A trademark menagerie of styles was highlighted by Cafe Noir at Midnight's icy meditation, Death Walk's spectral orchestra and the insistent chord progression and prog-lite breakdown of Menolick (more of this song later). Detonate's stark, poppy electronica gained the attention of BBC Radio 1, while Cafe Noir at Midnight was included on a cd documenting Edinburgh music. Musicians who contributed to this debut album included drummer Keith Kirkwood and guitarists Thomas Robertson and Carey Walton.

The first live incarnation of NNT (Sean on guitar and voice, Fabien on bass with Thomas and Keith) played in Edinburgh and beyond, collaborating with local artist Chris Dutton whose urban photography backdropped the band's set at the capital's Jamhouse.

When Thomas and Keith left to pursue their own projects, Sean and Fabien started to work on the material for a second album. Guitarist Marco Morelli and drummer Mike Walker were recruited for live and recording duties. NNT provided the music for Nicole Dolder's play Painted Eggs in Edinburgh, May 2008. Playing with increased conviction, the quartet furthered its pop mission with slots at Glasgow's iconic King Tut's and London's The Social as well as the inclusion of Menolick on Limbo Live 01, a compilation of bands from the burgeoning Scottish scene.
Live, NNT was 'a band forging its own distinctive sound and identity...a propulsive, muscular quality offset by the reflective vulnerability of Ormsby’s lyrics and intonation' (The Ark on-line magazine).

An edited, souped-up version of Menolick (Permwhale) was released as a single in November, 2009. The track, which had become talismanic for both band and audiences was positively received with support from international radio and podcasters.

NNT was gaining momentum and attention. Higher profile gigs and support slots followed, as well as bagging a much-coveted set at T in the Park's Tbreak stage. This big festival debut came in the wake of another single, May, 2010's You Won (Permwhale), a reflective banger which made people dance and impressed the critics. In the background, songs for a proposed second album were being selected, rejected, reselected and hammered out in studio and rehearsal room.

With Mike's departure in autumn 2010, NNT paused and regrouped with Keith Kirkwood returning along with Stephen McLaren on keyboards and vocals. Marco continued on lead guitar. A more expansive live sound reflecting the band's ambitious recordings was being developed. The third single Burning (Permwhale) emerged in November, 2010. NNT played in Montmartre, Paris to celebrate.

Recorded and mixed in Edinburgh and Paris, NNT's second album is 'SLOW RELEASE'. NNT were invited to play a debut BBC Radio1 session in May, 2011 to mark the occasion. Since then the band has grown into an increasingly formidable live unit sharing stages with FOUND, Kid Canaveral, The Godfathers, Paul Vickers and the Leg, The Little Kicks and Bwani Junction as well as concentrating on developing other artists on its Permwhale label. A new NNT ep is scheduled for May, 2012...
