Bio
NIGHT ON EARTH is a group that emerged from an improvisation that was performed live by Paracroussis, a devoted post-music sound-terrorist collective. Their musical style can be portrayed as a puzzle of trip hop and blues noir, tuned in a jazzy mood, under an improvising spirit; entering trippy and moody soundscapes that echo cinematic references. Their sound is more influenced by the images of Jim Jarmusch and Wong Kar Wai than a specific musical movement. However, in their music one can discover different and diverse elements: from Bristol’s vinyl melancholy and the progressive guitar trips of the 70’s to the avant-garde composers’ spirit and Keith Jarrett’s piano improvisations.
They have been performing live since November of 2004 in various venues around Greece and have taken part in several music festivals (European Music Day, Babel International Comics Festival, Balkan Performing Arts Market a.o.). Their live shows are occasionally accompanied by visuals, short films and performance. They are also working on writing music for films.
Under the name -Night On Earth ‘In a silent way‘- they perform their repertoire acoustically and cover songs (from Jeff Buckley and Pearl Jam to jazz standards and traditional Greek music) using piano, violin and voice. Under the name -Night On Earth ‘impro’- members of the band improvise alongside with guest improvisers such as cellist Nikos Veliotis and, trumpeter, Natryx.
In November of 2006 their debut self-titled double album was released under the independent greek label Outlandish Recordings. The album has received outstanding critics by the local press and webzines.
