Bio

When Caroline McNicholas embarked on her nursing career in November 1993 she vowed not to neglect her first passion, music. It was during her training time that she first met Johnny Reynolds, a professional guitarist from Dublin with a vast amount of experience playing on the blues/jazz/ rock scene in Dublin. Caroline regularly visited the cafe where Johnny played as part of a jazz instrumental guitar duo in 'The Dome Cafe'. She couldn't believe that such high quality music was so available and that these guys, Anthony Stapleton and Johnny were not playing to a more appreciative, paying audience!
The years passed , Caroline qualified and began working as a staff nurse in the Mater Hospital. For the first year she was content to be gaining experience as a qualified nurse with extra responsibility but began to feel a vast personal void that she knew could only be filled with the pursuit of a music career.
Having fulfilled the criteria to study music, she applied to Maynooth University where she successfully completed an honours degree in Music and French. She financed her studies by working as an agency nurse in various hospitals and institutions in Dublin, all the while composing and writing songs, largely inspired by tempestuous relationships and the human condition analyzed so artistically during her french studies and witnessed so dramatically in the heart wrenching reality of the hospital ward, both on a personal and professional level.
Caroline specialized in performance on the flute and continued performing with urban Irish folk/trad outfit, 'Suas', a band she formed with long time friends Peter Jennings, Alice Gildea and Glenn Scully. They secured a residency in The Arlington hotel where they enjoyed playing to a diverse audience on a weekly basis. They also travelled to Richmond, Virginia USA where they were widely acclaimed for their energetic performances.
Caroline decided to return to original material and had for a long time discussed the prospect of recording with her partner Johnny Reynolds. They have now recorded two EPs and are now concentrating on playing live in particularly intimate venues as a two piece and in festival settings as a four piece with drums and bass.
