I think that globally, right now, our culture is wounded deeply by the rift that comes from trying to compartmentalize our humanity. Trying to separate our spirits, bodies and minds; our feminine and masculine; our men and women.

In reality that kind of separation is impossible. But our culture seems bent on convincing us that those fractures are not only possible, but desirable, especially when it comes to sexuality. We have ourselves (and our children) convinced that we can have sex without becoming emotionally and spiritually affected; invested. Just trying to live down to that is making us sick and crazy. Niki Andre is the daughter of a jazz musician and a child of music theatre, whose format-defying blend of Hip Hop, Jazz and Soul has attracted fans worldwide. Her self-promoted debut, First Light, is catching spins at over 150 stations and shows - from Australia to North America and all across Europe. This self-proclaimed diva has coined the term "Dirty Jazz" to describe her emotional and improvisational sound. If you haven't heard of her yet, you will. First Light has already crept onto college charts and its gaining accolades from hosts and DJs around the globe. Niki has been performing since she was a child and once worked as a studio background vocalist. She is ACTRA affiliated. Past shows include performances at Revival, Trane, Ciao Edie's, The Drake and The Urban Music Association of Canada's Future Soul Showcase. Niki has been invited to showcase at the Bitter End, NYC, headlined at the exclusive Summer Fete in Alys Beach, FL and has been invited back next year. She's just been invited to showcase at The 3rd Annual Soul Music Summit, in Atlanta (September date TBA). Her 2nd release, "Dawn's Rise" will be officially released and available for download this Summer.
