“Nikki Forova released her EP “Revving Wings” in July 2012, earning comparisons to the likes of Imogen Heap and Tori Amos. At her fingertips, the Arcade Fire anthem, [newly released single “Tunnels”], becomes a lovely piano ballad.”

“Her poignant words resonate amid intricate, piano-based melodies to create high-quality indie-pop similar to Regina Spektor and Yael Naim. While her style seems destined for the airwaves of NPR, there’s also crossover potential to pop and AAA radio formats. Her soaring tunes have a cinematic feel and would seem custom made for movie soundtracks.

Forova’s voice is sweet and distinctive...The strings and brass add luscious layers to the well-crafted songs, separating them from similar acts in the genre. Nikki Forova kept the audience entranced with a whirlwind of songs, both high-flying and touching. With music that conveys a wide range of emotion, many listeners will find Nikki Forova instantly relatable.” - Music Connection Magazine, USA

"I'm in constant search for artists that grasp that inner feeling of intense emotion and her voice and music inspire exactly that. Songs like 'After Today' and 'Little Green Piece of Life' capture such intense feelings of incredible beauty, that it feels like I'm falling in love. Music like this is very powerful. That’s putting it lightly.”

Passionate composer and songwriter Nikki Forova writes about simple and forgotten truths and the beauties of life.

Her music is able to provoke individuals to seek true spirituality within themselves by reaching out beyond social norms or media conditioning.

Born in the Ukraine, Nikki Forova grew up under harsh Soviet rule where she participated in many choirs, groups, and competitions, making it to the national finals with a charismatic solo performance. After the wall fell, she made it to the United States where she earned a degree in music composition. She has performed at clubs and festivals in Los Angeles and in the Inland Empire, and is now living and working in L. A. Our interviewer files this report:

Current Projects:
I'm working on a CD right now; I have decided to call it The Rose-Colored Way. It’s probably bits and snippets of my life in the last 10 years. I would say, a juxtaposition of the real world with my rose colored perception.

Career highlights:
I won an MTV Reality Contest in 2003, to sing a duet, A Thousand Miles, with Grammy Nominee Vanessa Carlton. I was doing yoga in my head.

Musical influences:
Smashing Pumpkins, Tori Amos, Bjork. I like Imogen Heap right now and I grew up on Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. I did hundreds of hours of transcribing. That’s why I can imporvize a new song right off the bat.

Describe your sound:
It’s a fusion of alternative, rock, and Indie genres. What comes to mind when I’m thinking about what I want to carry with the music that I compose is the emotion that movies extract from people. And anyway, now all these elements are floating in my system, and it’s this fusion that I feel includes my favorites of music. Folk elements, of course, rock, percussive elements from ethnic music from different countries, somehow this all comes together in one. All of these styles together make a big difference.

Compositional style:
I started playing the piano when I was 6, composing when I was 7, I moved to the U.S. when I was 18. I was raised listening to classical music. Bands, people playing the guitar and singing their own songs, which I really loved, because I believe in the power of people creating music. I’ve always been fascinated with it.

Lyrics: My music is about the ordinary things that we all think about but rarely talk about, or tap into sometimes, the human struggle, creation, good and bad in one person, a tradition subject.
I’m fascinated with how simple life is, but how complicated it seems to all of us. If you compare a human being to his surroundings, in nature, everything fits. The mountain fits into its background.
I have a song about a bird that falls out of its nest, and she’s trying to learn how to fly.
She doesn’t know how to fly yet, but she will, because flying is in her nature, the wind knocks her down but there she goes again.

We human beings will get up and go again, because that’s in our nature.

Of course, love moves us all, that seems to be the highest ground for everyone, the highest emotion you can feel. But it is also something we can all experience, people move mountains, build temples, write poetry about love, and books—there are volumes.

But there’s so much more to feel and write about that surrounds love. There are many kinds of love, not just love between a man and a woman.

There are things that are lying dormant in a human soul and in a human mind. We forget about running through the rain as a child because we’re all so busy. That’s what I carry in my songs.

And because we’re so far away from that reality, if people hear it enough times, they relate it to when they first fell in love or overcame their fear and went flying.

Bio

Nikki Forova is a Russian American singer-songwriter who built a following in the west of United States and Europe. She is known for her unique voice, whimsical, quirky and philosophical lyrics and powerful productions with influences of singer-songwriter, alternative and cinematic music.

She was born in USSR to a family of accomplished theater actors. Being an average poor family, they couldn't afford the piano, so Nikki went to local kindergartens after hours to practice classical piano. When she was seven a friend gifted her a black upright piano. After the wall fell, Nikki moved to the US. She received recognition through performances in the Los Angeles singer-songwriter scene and her MTV appearance doing a duet with Vanessa Calrton, of a hit song “A Thousand Miles.”

Shortly after, Nikki co-produced her first indie album “Revving Wings.” It became a colorful and powerful musical work, a cross-over between eclectic singer-songwriter and rock genres. Upon its release in 2010, Nikki launched into a two year tour to Europe and West of US. Received with emotions, tears and smiles: personal stories would pour out of fans during the after-the-show hang outs.

Mikey Jayy, “All Indie Magazine” founder says, "I'm in constant search for artists that grasp that inner feeling of intense emotion and her voice and music inspire exactly that. Songs like 'After Today' and 'Little Green Piece of Life' capture such intense feelings of incredible beauty, that it feels like I'm falling in love. Music like this is very powerful.” “Revving Wings” was remixed and remastered with Simon Heyworth (Erasure, Imogen Heap, Depeche Mode) and re-released in July 2012.

New album “White Dandelions” is in production. So ever warm, playful, quirky and intimate. She's teaming up with two London producers: Andreas Olsson known for his productions of Mary J. Blige, Jason Mraz, Train and Patrick Wood who produced Youtube wonder, Emily and The Woods. CD release and US Tour is scheduled in MARCH 2013 and European tour with an American Idol, Shaun Canon, is scheduled in May 2013.
