Bio

An Alabama boy born and raised in Birmingham, Nimbus The General always tried to be the center of attention. He explains, “I remember being snowed in the apartment we were staying in. We had talent shows in the living room to keep ourselves busy, and even then I had such a love for music that I tried to sing my heart out in every song.” He used to pencil song lyrics in his notebook, and started writing poetry before beginning what he called, “putting words to a beat”. Not having a singing voice, he tried imitating Hip-Hop artists he heard at house parties, and that’s where he began to find his identity. “I have always been passionate about putting my thoughts out for people to relate to. This was the most creative outlet for me, and it still challenges my creativity to this day.”
It wasn’t until 2004 when he bought his first microphone and used Audacity to record his first song, “Chaos”. “People were impressed by the lyrics, the wordplay, and the overall structure of the song. For a song that is nearly six minutes in length, it never ran out of steam.” In an interview with Ear 2 Tha Streetz, he listed his influences as artists such as Nas, Rakim, The Roots, and Saigon. “I grew up listening to everything that sounded good to my ears. I used to pick out the flaws of those songs, and used those critiques to create my style of music while trying to steer away from the flaws I heard.”
After moving from Alabama to Illinois, Missouri and finally Pennsylvania, he began building his fan base. He performed at open mic nights to promote his music and practice his personality on stage. “I wanted the fans to see my goofy side, I wanted them to participate in songs and enjoy the music with me, and I wanted to show them how good I am.” He got in contact with producer Nicolas Scholtes (Allrounda Productions), as well as a few others, and began recording his first full length album at the High Street Music Company. This album will feature underground artists such as Medaphore, MadFlex, and Sinatti Pop, while also featuring known recording artists such as Armageddon from the Terror Squad. “The album is titled The Second Coming for a reason”, he explains. “It has always been a battle between lyricists and mainstream artists. I feel like this will eventually destroy the art. So this is the second coming of real hip-hop music.”
His first single, “Twist The Language, was nominated for a Grammy award and sent to radio stations worldwide. His second single, “Rebel Yell (Alabama Theme Song)”, was also nominated for a Grammy award and sent to radio stations worldwide. It wasn’t until his third single, “My City”, which he began to see recognition for his music. This song was nominated for a Grammy award, featured as the introduction to The Hometeam’s radio show on Hot 107.9 Philadelphia, and was also featured on ESPN broadcasting, as well as on their website (espn.com). So far Nimbus The General has opened for artists such as Armageddon, Brand Nubian, Onyx, etc. His ambition in the music industry is to put his music on stage and let the fans decide if he has what it takes to grab their attention.
