Bio

Nina B is not your typical rap artist. She’s more than just a pretty face from Brooklyn. An aspiring poet, captivating entertainer
and avid writer, Nina always knew she was destined for bigger and better things. Nina has always loved rap; some of her early influences include legends such as Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, 2-Pac; and the lyricism of Shyne, Foxxy Brown, Lil Kim and Roxanne Shante. Nina understands the difficult grind of the rap game but cites confidence as her most powerful weapon. She explains, “Everybody that loves music would love my lyrics and I know there’s no one like me.”

Determined to make it to the top, Nina knows there will also be numerous comparisons between her and other female rap artists. Once you hear her music, her unique style sets her apart from the competition. As a young teenager, she studied a variety of music through her school’s performing arts program. As her appreciation for various genres grew, she also developed creatively; coming up with her own material in the form of songs, routines, and her other love, fashion design. Her passion for fashion inspires her standout style; she even considered a career in fashion design before deciding that music is her first love. Although Nina is a young lady, she sounds like an accomplished veteran when talking about getting into the rap game. “Most people think all they are going to do is shows. Or
they think all they have to do is put a tape out and they’ll get
discovered. But it’s not all mansions and Benzes; it’s a lot of hard work.” Nina understands the game and has what it takes to be a major force, representing for females in the business.

Initially, Nina was on the fast track to success when a major label was offered her a deal early in her career. She passed it up, feeling that the offer was not in her best interest, and decided to wait for the next deal to come along. Things seemed to go in slow motion for months and Nina promised herself if she did not get offered another deal by her 18th birthday she was going to quit rapping. That’s when she started going to the Hip Hop Project. Nina was the typical frustrated artist, stubborn and defiant, but she was blessed to witness a lot of other talent at the event. There she met Amber, the owner of Ravenel Records, who was teaching a class on how to run your own label. The two young female visionaries immediately formed a bond. After Nina went out to California to participate in a reality TV show, she and Amber decided that they made a winning combination and Nina became one of Ravenel Records’s first artists. The label secured Nina on a Hip Hop Summit performance tour allowing Nina to travel around the country.

“Everything is the same but different. You have to respect that when you go someplace. As long as you go on stage with energy the crowd will react.”
After visiting over 28 national markets, Nina is back at home and working on her debut album. She also just completed a mix CD exclusively for Ravenel Records and was featured on The Game’s “Westside Connection” album. Nina has received various accolades and is making big plans for the future. “I want my first album to have some rock-n-roll beats, bounce beats, soul. I know that my first album needs to be great so I can have an impact.”
Nina has already made her mark on the performance scene, coming in second place in Hot 97 FM’s Summer Jam Underground Culture Lyrical Championship. She was also nominated for “Most Promising Female Rapper” for the Underground Music Awards. Be prepared for big things with fresh new artist, Nina B, partnered with the new label, Ravenel Records, in 2005.
