December 2011 marks the release of Toronto-based singer-songwriter Ninique Royer’s independent full-length debut album, Bones of Youth. Though only recently recorded by acclaimed musician and musical engineer Tim Vesely (Rheostatics, Violet Archers fame) in Toronto’s Woodshed Studio, Bones of Youth has in fact been crafted over the past several years. Originally inspired by a move from the rural grounds of Northern Ontario to the densely populated skyline of the city, it documents the mental and emotional exploration of life anew. It reflects a coming of age, a growth and maturation of songs through time and space to reveal many layers of transition.
In Bones of Youth, listeners will hear Ninique’s raspy vocals over top of warm open tunings on an acoustic guitar with subtle orchestral accompaniment. It is a self-reflective journey of Ninique’s experiences through raw emotion and captivating artistry; an album that reveals layers upon layers of musical depth with every listen.
