Nita Chawla

I guess I'd say I am an urban girl with a southern heart. I was born in MS but have lived close to Washington D.C. since I was five. I'm intrigued by the arts, entertainment, fashion etc, but in the end I could and probably would trade it all in for a simple life. Maybe cliche, I know, but I really am quite happy with the simple things in life. What else...I am probably the clutsiest, goofball ever. But anyway, I really have to thank my parents for my musical interests/abilities since they are the ones who have fostered any talent I've ever had. My mom and dad both sing (they have a Hindi parody CD!) and my dad plays the tablas as well. I used to sing in Hindi too when I was little. As I got older, my sister got me started on Tori Amos, who remains one of my biggest influences to this day, mostly becuase I practically grew up with her. Even before the Tori days though, I had already started with piano. In high-school, I started singing again and then eventually wrote a song after my first breakup. It was a really pathetic song, but it opened up the doors to a whole different way of approaching music. It woke me up to the idea of not just being a musician, but an artist. I realized that putting my thoughts to music was the most effective way to express myself. What can I say...I have so much more to learn still! But along the way, I hope you enjoy what I'm creating and that maybe I can make someone feel the way I do when I listen to my favorite songs/artists. Thanks for stopping by :) ~Nita
