Under The Gun sent me all over the city of Cleveland in the past few weeks covering an endless amount of amazing shows. Another show I, Kellie Gannon, got to photograph was Yelawolf at Peabody’s in Cleveland, OH for his current “Hard White” Tour. The lineup of talented opening acts was extensive and included one of Cleveland’s newest breakout hip hop groups, Nite ‘N’ Day, who opened with four songs off their “Nothing Personal” EP. Alabama rapper, Yelawolf, played to a packed venue with his hits “Daddy’s Lambo,” “Good To Go,” & “Trunk Muzik” as well as amping up excitement for the upcoming release of his debut studio album, Radioactive, November 21, 2011. Nite 'N' Day are an American hip hop duo based in Cleveland, Ohio consisting of Cleveland natives, Charlie Williams and Malcolm "MT" Tyus . The group's original music style consists of a hip hop foundation that includes a rich influence of many other genres, including Pop, R&B, Classical, Rock, Dance, and Dub Step.
Williams and Tyus formed Nite 'N' Day as high school students during late 2009. Their first project was released in the form of a home-produced mix tape titled, "The Soloist". Upon graduation from the same high school, the duo briefly found themselves traveling different paths; Charlie attended school on a football scholarship at Notre Dame College in South Euclid while Malcolm went on to continue developing himself as an artist. Even though they were separated, the two made the decision to continue to work together in the future.
Shortly after, Malcolm and Charlie began writing and recording their first professional project as Nite 'N' Day titled, "Nothing Personal", along with producer, Lino Sistu (also known as Jimmy Temper of the Temper Twins band). The two also began performing live, which included an appearance at the Ohio Hip Hop Awards Showcase Tour. By the time the tour had come to an end, the completed "Nothing Personal" received over 1,300 downloads by the duo's quickly growing fan base.
As Nite 'N' Day's popularity grew, Williams and Tyus found themselves more and more in demand. The two played bigger shows at larger venues, opening for names such as King Chip, Yelawolf and EST recording artist Dubo.
After the huge success of "Nothing Personal", Nite 'N' Day began working on their second project, "From Ohio With Love", also known as "F.O.W.L". For this release, the duo introduced a new sound and direction into their music, working with established producers, Clockwork Music Group (CMG).
CMG added Nite 'N' Day to an impressive and growing list of artists - working relationships that have included names such as King Chip, Ray Cash, Ray Jr. and Krayzie Bone. On July 4th, 2012, "F.O.W.L" was released to the general public via Livemixtapes.com (hosted by DJ Corey Grand).
The maturity and hunger that marked "F.O.W.L" ensured that the release received high praise from fans, old and new. Whether it's the dramatic first track "Opening Night", the brooding ballad "Heartbreak", or party anthems such as "Round N Round" and "Drink To That", F.O.W.L displays the versatility and incredible musical talent and potential that the rising stars possess.
Armed with an ever-growing catalog of eclectic music and a steadily increasing fan base, Nite 'N' Day are now embarking upon the early stages of their first tour, and are writing new material for a forthcoming album which will be available for purchase and download via iTunes (date TBC).
