I have had the pleasure of seeing these two giants grow into one of the most prolific entertainers in show business.

They have single handedly changed how East Africans view dance and entertainment in general.

Having stayed away from home, the first album i encountered was by N.I.X, it totally blew me away. There brilliance grows yearly...

Bio

2006 marked the introduction of two Kenyan new comers to the
global dance music scene, N.I.X. Currently with 15 unreleased
compositions, a handful of remixes in waiting and endless praises
by some of the region’s top producers and DJ’s; the duo have a very
promising future ahead for them. Their sound can be described as
a fresh, sophisticated blend of deep melodies, twisted grooves and
tight arrangements that captivates the listener from start to finish.

Originating from Nairobi, Kenya, Ian “Knar-Na” Wainaina and
Moses Qqu Odhiambo were introduced at the national high school
music and drama festival where both their respective schools were
finalists. Their mutual admiration for progressive house,
atmospheric breaks and African rhythms, soon led them to a
performing arts company where their experimenting and writing
inevitably set the foundation of what their sound offers today.

While growing up in Nairobi, music was a dominant force in the
duos lives. Hip Hop, house music, Jazz,Gospel, Kwaito, Reggae
and Latin compilations served as a preface to Ian’s Choreography
career. With over 8 years as a Choreographer under his belt, Ian has
choreographed and danced along side some of the regions
seasoned artistes. Knar-na’s knowledge for the mechanics of
dance in music and his understanding of what it takes to make a
crowd move are not only evident in his hometown but also spans
the global scene. The international feedback of Knar-na’s set for
stage performances has positioned him as the next generation of
up and coming entertainers to watch for.

While Qqu’s tastes led him to an informal musical training
background, his love for design and playing music as a teen helped
shape his musical vocabulary. Qqu dipped his melodic hands into
all types of music from classical, jazz and blues, to soul and hard
rock. The drums were his instrument of choice. Also an
accomplished and nationally recognized digital artist, Qqu draws
on his musical talents as an extension of his artistry. Where by the
layering and texturing of sounds can be paralleled to painting with
colours and composition.

N.I.X’s initial material received enthusiastic responses from several
industry professionals and is currently enjoying rotation on the East
African Music Circuit and the MTV Base Channel. N.I.X were recently nominated for a Kisima Award (East Africa’s annual music
industry award ceremony) for the best hiphop song for the year
(2005-2006). Best Group, Best Boomba (2007)
N.I.X have also been awarded the 2008 Urban Legend ambassadors for mentorship and positive lifestyle.* this came as a result of their status as the most influential group as noted by the youth in East Africa

With more productions and remixes already in the works for 2008,
you can listen for a more tougher, deeper polished sound from the
duo who will continue pushing the sonic envelope to emotionally
charge their listeners on and off the dance floor.
