"No Small Matter – Eyes Open"

"With a force of nature quality to it the whole thing simply washes over the listener in a dazzling array. Riffs have a flexibility to them, drawing from an early 90s alternative rock format."

"No Small Matter New Single "Eyes Open""

"[...] After that striking vocal intro, big drums burst in, accompanied by a stuttering and swaggering electric guitar riff. The lyric continues to suggest that this dreamlife is not really living. In fact, it’s closer to dying. It’s an escape from reality. It could be referring to drug addiction, although Connelly never explicitly says this. Nevertheless, his state of mind – at least the way it was in the past – paralleled drug abuse, to some extent. [..]"

"Find it uncomfortable, good. That means you were meant to be here. In a world reopening to reality – are you prepared to go there? Perfectly timed for our viral times – this contributor might just be the anarchist (or alchemist) you needed. Pick your poison. Drink real medicine. Understand the true nature of freedom. This little prophet is onto something – and he’s absolutely right. It’s no small matter."

"NO SMALL MATTER – “Eyes Open” Exclusive Review!"

"Take a bit of Arctic Monkeys, mix them with Foo Fighters and Nirvana, with a bit of Rage Against the Machine, and Soundgarden on top. Starting from the incredible performance of Zach Connelly (also the bassist of the band) behind the microphone, and his incredible control of both clean and screaming vocals, the metronomic and unstoppable drums of Zach Duncan, supported by the talented Gordon Zemotel at the guitar."

"This band has a unique way to approach their melodies, and more importantly, they are able to create tracks that are catchy and dynamic, without necessarily compromising the authentic energy of this track."

"Eyes Open - No Small Matter (reviewed by Dave Franklin)"

"Remember that film that featured Talking Heads on a road trip through the California desert, the one where they stop off at a bar and end up jamming with the house band, who just happen to be Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band? No, of course you don’t, I just made it up. But if anyone had made that film then the main song on the soundtrack album would sound a lot like this."

"Single Review: “Eyes Open” By No Small Matter"

"[...] The instrumentation backs up these lyrics, with a hard rock style led by electric guitar. After the second chorus, there is an electric guitar solo, highlighting the guitarist’s talent. It is easy to find talent throughout the song, which includes the lyrics, vocals, instrumentation, and production. [...]"

"No Small Matter Takes Big Swings with Pair of 2019 EPs"

"Abington, Massachusetts – September 26, 2019 – Connected by the shared love of music, two men named Zach and one named Gordon formed as No Small Matter in 2016. A year later they had one song to their name, but all that changed in 2019 when they dropped their self-titled debut EP in March and soon after followed that up with Far Away at the end of July.

Three-songs deep, No Small Matter quickly established what this trio was all about; lyrical transparency intertwined with chords that make audiences want to move about. They get a little heavier on Far Away, with arrangements that give Queens of the Stone Age vibes. With influences that range across the board, fans of everything from ’90s alternative rock to ’00s pop-punk will enjoy what they hear as soon as they press play on No Small Matter’s Spotify playlist. The band dropped their self-titled EP, and quickly started gaining more followers. They have since recorded another EP, which released on July 27th, and debuted their first music video, “Eyes Open,” on February 28, 2020. "Eyes Open" has since received a nomination for the 2020 International Independent Music Video Awards (IIMVAs).
