LOCAL MUSICIAN NOAH GARRETT
OPENS FOR NATIONAL RECORDING ARTIST JOE FIRSTMAN

Kill Devil Hills, NC

North Carolina native national recording artist Joe Firstman is playing in Kill Devil Hills this week, fresh off a summer tour with renowned singer/songwriter Jewel.

In a recent review of a stop on the tour, The New York Post said, "The indisputable hit of this concert was opening act Joe Firstman. His brief, eight-song set earned him a standing ovation--unheard of for a warm-up act." At the 2001 Los Angeles Music Awards, he was named Singer/Songwriter of the Year.

Firstman is set to hit the stage this Thursday, Oct. 6, at Port O'Call, following a special opening acoustic performance from local singer/songwriter Noah Garrett (formerly of The Scapegoats). Garrett’s second cd is set to come out in early November and there is word on the street that a New York City based record company will be picking him up for distribution and promotion.
"This is going to be a different kind of musical setting," Garrett said of this week's show. "It's going to be an intimate evening focused on some truly amazing musical talent, where we both have a love and passion for what we do." From Garrett's ability to capture a crowd with his charming smile, catchy songwriting, and melodic sense to Firstman creatively going from poetic ballad to hard rock cover without missing a beat, this Thursday night promises to be one of the most talked about shows of the season.

This rare and intimate musical session, presented by Red Pearl Productions, starts at 10 p.m. this Thursday, with doors opening at 8. The Port O'Call Restaurant and Saloon is at milepost 8.5 on the beach road.

Noah Garrett Interview

Music:
"A little bit of this and a little bit of that. I mean I like it all and enjoy playing it all. Anything from the Eagles, Bob Dylan and Widespread Panic, to Rage Against the Machine and even hip hop sounds from Eminem and the Outkast. I feel if a musician limits themselves to a certain genre it limits their overall performance and ability. Basically, I think my music is fun and helps people have a good time."

Band members or other artists you perform with:
Currently lead vocals and rhythm guitarist for The Scapegoats.

Do you perform originals, covers, or a mix?
I mix it up a bit. However, with a long list of originals in the `ol setlist, I'm starting to play more and more of those and less of others people work.

Do you have CD's for sale? Where?
I have one solo CD I did in 2002 called Some Mine, Some Theirs. I typically sell some during performances. The Scapegoats are planning a full-length album this winter to put out by next spring...so keep an eye out for it soon.

Bio, experiences, where you like to play, etc:
Originally from Virginia Beach, I moved to the Outer Banks in 1999 after completing college at Francis Marion University in South Carolina. While in school, I played with two pretty successful bands, Homespun and Irene's Kitchen, while at the same time playing solo gigs at certain venues and parties. I love to play, wherever and whenever. I have to say the most memorable gigs I have were this: Playing in a Hardee's Drive-thru in Charleston S.C., Opening for a KISS tribute band in Florence S.C., with all kinds of pyrotechnics blowing up; jamming with my dad one last time before he passed away; and probably the many, many nights on Quagmire's deck with all the DrunkFans. Music can save your soul. It sounds so cliche, but it really does make life better, so we support all local musicians as well as music in our schools. Hope to see you at one of my shows soon. TAMPA, FL --(MARKET WIRE)—November 9, 2005 – Acclaim Records, Inc announced today the signing of the North Carolina-based artist “Noah Garrett”. The popular artist has been getting to the heart of an acoustic rock sound with an americana feel and is set to debut his first project with Acclaim Records in April of 2006. “Music is what you make it, that’s the best part of what I do, my goal is to write songs that make you feel good and put on a show that leaves people smiling”, stated Noah.

Bio

Noah has been a musical artist/songwriter for most of his life... After playing in numerous bands throughout his career, including the highly successful South Carolina rock group Homespun, Noah moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina in 1999 to refresh his career, eventually releasing his first solo effort in 2002 entitled "Some Mine, Some Theirs".

Having a father, numerous friends and relatives as musicians really helped this young veteran carve a unique style and sound that has crowds in any venue asking for more every time he performs. With the outdoor concert season upon us, it won't be difficult to spot this redheaded wonder at your favorite watering hole.
Noah has a bachelors degree in communications from Francis Marion University in South Carolina. He was co-editor of the school's student newspaper, The Patriot, both his junior and senior year at the university. Before leaving, Noah worked with the Gannet-owned publication The Florence Morning News and worked with the entertainment staff on the weekly release of Five O'Clock Friday.
Noah joined the Associated Press and the N.C. Press Association in 1999 when he started as a staff writer for The Coastland Times newspaper. While there, he advanced to senior photographer, writer and columnist in less than three years.
Staying busy, Noah also became an Internet consultant for Central-Florida based Surfguru.com, filing a daily report of the surf conditions on the Outer Banks - a premier surfing destination on the East Coast. He also freelances with the Outer Banks Visitors Guide and is an assignment writer for Eastern Surf Magazine.
Even though Noah left The Coastland Times in Fall of 2003 to join the staff of Convergent Broadcasting as an on air personality and Assistant Program Director. Noah continues to write the weekly sports column ALL THAT'S SURF in every Thursday's edition of the Coastland Times and is now syndicating to the Daily Advance in Elizabeth City. In October of 2004 Noah added to his busy schedule by joining forces with another local marketing promotor and together they formed Red Pearl Productions. A marketing and promotional company that presented such music greats as Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, The Smithereens, The Wailers, Bob Margolin, Joe Firstman and Zydeco marvel Terrance Simien. Noah was just picked up by Acclaim Records, Inc. in Tampa Florida and has now left the radio station to pursue his musical dreams and continue to bring Red Pearl Productions to a league of it's own.
