Nou, dàt was alweer even geleden! Sam Lapides, ooit de drijvende kracht van Ghosthouse, is terug van in tijdje weggeweest, deze keer in het gezelschap van The Rotten Liars, een band die hij in het begin van 2014 rond zich verzamelde. Ik heb er geen idee van of dit 5-track ep'tje de voorloper is van een nog te verschijnen full CD of niet, maar alleszins laat Sam op “Bodie” horen dat hij de kunst van het songschrijven niet kwijt gespeeld is.

Waarom het zolang stil geweest is rond de man, weet ik ook niet, maar het kan alleszins niet zijn omdat zijn muziek minderwaardig of gedateerd zou zijn. Sam maakt nog altijd heerlijk rockende songs met wortels en die zijn nog altijd bijzonder beluisterbaar.

Het recept klinkt, wanneer het in handen is van een meester als Sam, bijzonder eenvoudig:hussel blues, R'n4 B, Rock en pop in de juiste verhoudingen door elkaar en je krijgt een heel verteerbare muzikale cocktail. Van het bluesy “Knocking On Wood” over het rockende “Cover Up” tot het dromerige “Bodie”, met zijn fijne orgelpartij en knappe backing vocals, dit plaatje bevat ruim genoeg variatie om op zichzelf te staan en tegelijk te doen verlangen naar meer. Ik hoop maar dat die full CD er snel komt, want Sam Lapides heeft “het” nog altijd!
