"WRFL lexington's review of Portmanteau"

"Local songwriter Cody Swanson puts together a great collection of introspective, melancholy folk tunes in the vein of In The Aeroplane Over the Sea. A lot of the tracks have a blues, almost country western feel to them, which contributes greatly to the atmosphere of longing and isolation that makes this record really stellar, especially for such a low-key local act." - WRFL Radio

"Review of Limestone Walls & Frozen Falls"

"The Noisycrane family has grown in size and stature since we last heard from them. This recording features the members we saw and the songs we heard when they shared the stage with Baby Dee. Mostly folky and melancholy, Cody Swanson's voice dips low to conjur up Stephen Merritt's bass tone. Makes you want to slow down and watch the rain and feel sad." - WRFL radio

"Review: Noisycrane - Limestone Walls & Frozen Falls"

Earlier this year I blogged about Kentucky band Noisycrane, they intrigued me with their lo-fi folk sound. Current bands with a similar sound include Beirut. But they differ in that the Balkan sound isn't trying to be replicated. The record features dreary blues sounding music as in the sound of 'Blood Bleed Red' with guitars that seem to build-up to an inevitable climax. Another way to explain the sound would be comparable to Neutral Milk Hotel. The songs let you feel what is behind them. In 'E to A' you can feel the sadness in the slow burning track. Songs I would recommend would be the trumpet driven 'We Are' and the melancholy 'Rosea' featuring Alison Goetz. Cody Swanson outsdoes himself in the group of collected gloomy brooding songs. - JP's blog, jp917.blogspot.com

Bio

Noisycrane started as Cody Swanson's side project from Louisville instrumental rock band, Manchuria, with a guitar, trumpet, and loop pedal in 2005. In 2006 Sean Rose joined on drums and Austin on bass soon after.

Noisycrane now operates as a constantly growing and shrinking band of friends, sometimes six or seven players (swelling with violin, cello and trumpet), sometimes only one. The songs remain the same, though played with varying instruments and constantly in fun, new ways.

The band are currently working on a new studio EP to be recorded at The Funeral Home, in Louisville, KY

Noisycrane is influenced by: The Microphones, Will Oldham, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Arcade Fire, DeVotchKa, and other lo-fi or western folk, as well as harder bands like Death From Above.
