What is that slowly arising out of the static of your radio. A cello? A drum machine? A bowl? You have now entered into the chaotic world of No Mas Bodas, a twisting, sprawling world of sound where each instrument seemingly follows their own intergalactic beat yet still manage to come together and weave songs that are at once brooding, sweet, tough, crazy and cool. This is the type of music that readily defies categorization, and they seem to like it that way.

Experimental
Recommended show:
• June 7 at Salvage Vanguard Theatre: “Lady Friends Series”
Austin’s No Mas Bodas is experimental in the most extreme sense of the word. This trio combines electronic beats and buzzes with haunting female vocals, orchestral wind instruments, a violin, cello, saxophone and the darling twinklings of a xylophone. If the ladies of No Mas Bodas manage to not freak you out first, they will enchant you with their gothic eeriness and anachronistic musical combinations.

[Live review of Beauty Bar performance]
OK first of all, No Mas Bodas was fantastic. They took the stage and a few minutes later Nathan and I had this moment -- we looked at each other and both of us wordlessly agreed with the other, that this was something really amazing. He grabbed a camera and started filming then and there.
They're experimental, they're fascinating, they're original and they're an all girl four-piece to boot! Christina, the lead singer, is a sweet looking honey voiced, adorably dressed, curly haired 50's sweetheart with a style and passion that's as gritty as her aesthetic isn't. The band uses pre-recorded sounds as well as live, the latter of which includes a cello. I must admit, I have a soft spot for classical instruments used in modern music.

Members of No Mas Bodas hail from varying musical backgrounds yet share the same adventurous spirit. They all possess a flare for the avant garde & experimental with a punk attitude. Their music, however, forges out a pop sensibility; remaining different, yet accessible. Their sound easily lends itself to their imaginative visual performance as well. Costume, theater, and visual projections all add to the aesthetic created at a live show.
