Bio

Formed in Oct 09 and already making an impact, the quartet plan to shake up everything in their path. Featured in Hot Press Magazine earlier this year as 'Hot tip for 2010', receiving airplay on notable radio shows such as BBC Radio 1 Introducing and Electric Mainline and gigging rigorously across the country; NMC have quickly become a force to be reckoned with.

Most recently making it through to the final 8 of Redbull Bedroom Jam 2010; played a live stream gig from their bedroom direct to the world, played some of the biggest festivals in europe such as Download, Sonisphere and T in the Park.

While they may only be babies in the NI music scene (they formed a handful of months ago) the Derry natives' live shows have already got tongues wagging from those in the know, fronted by former model Jilly, the quartet's ability to craft a sugary hook over a satisfyingly chunky riff have marked them out to be a very exciting prospect over the next 12 months - Hot Press Magazine

To be blunt, No Mean City were amazing. They were on top form and as predicted they took the entire crowd by storm. The stage was theirs and they had no hesitation in dominating their surroundings and exerting an amount of energy I doubt anyone actually expected of such a relatively small band on the Download bill. - GiggingNI (10/10 Download 2010 review)

No Mean City are a biting new rock band from Derry, consisting of members from previously respected bands and fronted by the striking Jilly St John. Raw guitar riffs and syncopated rhythms form a formidable force behind the funky female vocals of this hotly tipped outfit - The Big List (11/09)

Their music is a raucous mixture of heavy riffs and pop-hooks citing influences including Refused, The Mars Volta and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs to name just a few. Jilly is an enigmatic front-lady; she is very much like a Northern Irish Karen-O, confident and quirky in the best kind of way, whilst the rest of the band provide a technically proficient and boisterously rockin' backdrop to complete the dynamic. It works well. - TheUnsignedGuide.com (02/10)
