"Sphere of Hiphop's Review of "Rosario Dawson""

NomiS – Rosario Dawson

Beats: 4/5
Rhymes: 4/5
Overall: 8/10

Indie (July 27, 2010)
Review by Joshua G.

NomiS is a smooth, flowin’ cat from San Diego and the super group of tomorrow, Gallery Drive. Two years have passed since NomiS has branched out on a solo joint, however, the Rosario Dawson EP surpasses all the hype! His first two efforts, Destined Misconception (2004) and Mouthpiece of the Lion (2008) were solid efforts in their own respect. Longevity has added soulful, mature lyrics instead of tired beats and monotone hooks. NomiS found the missing link from his previous works as solid production was added to this project.

NomiS found inspiration for the cover art and title of his EP from an interesting metaphor as he explains. “I remember watching Seven Pounds or something she was in and thinking to myself, ‘She is quite the cute lady. God did a good job with her. She would be nice to know, but I never will.’” NomiS continues, “It’s actually a playful metaphor about people always wanting the things we can’t have instead of just desiring the things we really need.” He has uncovered a profound state of mind to only desire needs instead of wants. NomiS explains on the 10-track EP of the battles back-n-forth between wants and needs.

Throughout his third solo project, NomiS isn’t afraid to bring to surface such topics as defending the voiceless (On Behalf of the Silenced), confronting the unrighteous mix of faith and politics (Dropping Jewels), and milk verses meat-fed Christians (Nobody). Carefully selecting a unique blend of guest appearances, the likes of Cas Metah, Blame One, ManChild, Deadmanwalking, iAMe, and LMNO add wisdom and Christ love to the overall feel of the EP.

Overall, NomiS brings pure heat to your speakers and ears regardless of which track you’re vibin’ to with headphones or in your ride. NomiS lyricism is original and puts the listener in mind of an artist from Reach Records or Lampmode Recordings. Bar for bar, NomiS confidently wears his heart and faith on his sleeve as personal transparency is a redundant theme of this project.”I cordially invite you to the destruction of your fake crown,” spits NomiS on the track Nobody begs us to wonder if we’re fighting for the righteous or personal gain within our lives.

The Rosario Dawson EP is an instant classic! Like the current summer blockbuster movie Inception, NomiS will have you thinking and questioning personal faith for days after listening to any given track. NomiS has developed his own Legacy towards inspiring hearts and souls worldwide, what mark on this world will you leave after your last breath?

"DaSouth's Album Review of "Rosario Dawson""

Artwork: The artwork is dope. I am really sick of people using sub-par artwork for an album. I think the artwork is just as important as the music. Wack Cover usually equals wack music.

1. Dropping Jewels- NomiS is a GREAT lyricist. Some Lyricists talk too much; He is not that kind of Emcee. He has a great voice and lyrical delivery. I love the DJ cuts; this song is an awesome opening for an EP. Also the end of this song features my favorite show the office.

2. Count On Me- Actual line: “Stop pride and replace it with humility /drop a deuce on you cats, I’m using the facility.” That’s all I am going to say.

3. Rosario Dawson- I listened to this song 10 times I finally got it. I’m kinda slow. This song reminds me of the Lyricists Lounge glory days. Great message. I suggest you listen.

4. The Legacy- Each of the songs have great message. Blame One is dope on this track. Good track.

5. Nobody- Each of the tracks on the album are dope, but this song stands out from the others. I have to the say the features make the track better. So far my favorite on the EP.

6. I Just Wanna Rap- This track shows his lyrical A Game. I really like his style on this track. All the songs are quality songs. That’s why I love EP all dope songs no fillers. I mean if you mess up an EP you shouldn’t rap.

7. Far From A Shook One- Manchild and iAMe are the best part of the song. The Chorus and the beat are ehhh.

8. Rock On- This beat is probably one of the most used samples I have ever heard but I love it. This song is dope. This type of track makes him shine. The chorus is designed more for a crowd, not for a listener.

9. On Behalf Of The Silenced- This is a deep track. Again another great message shows his versatility and an artist. I would have liked another one of these.

This album has a lyrical/street sound. If you are looking for swag go home, if you’re looking for substance you’re in the right place. If you like Deepspace 5 or Lampmode you will love it. I would like to hear a little more from NomiS. This cd is FREE I suggest you definitely get it. - DaSouth.com

"BigSto Album Review of "Rosario Dawson""

Nomis, part of the super group of tomorrow Gallery Drive and is an established veteran in the Christian Hip Hop realm. The emcee has two full albums under his belt and has worked with the likes of Sev Statik, TheBreax, Wonder Brown and so much more. Nomis is back after his sophomore effort to release The Rosario Dawson EP. 10 tracks of Nomis with guest appearances from ManChild, Blame One, Deadmanwalking and more.

I’ve always been a fan of Nomis, I have both of his full projects he has the “heart on his sleeve” vibe about him and is just an honest emcee. The one problem I did have with his projects was the production. His rhymes were always smooth and always made the reader think after listening to him, but the production never really drew me in. Well let me tell you with The Rosario Dawson EP, the beats are FIRE and I think this is an EP that Nomis’ fans have been waiting for.

Being 10 tracks deep Nomis has to bring the heat lyrically and production-wise right away and he does that. “Count On Me” is good track to get the ball rolling on this EP, Nomis basically says “Guess what I’m human, I have flaws and have done wrong, but you know what with Christ on side you can count on me”. I’m not entirely sure what song was sampled on this track, but I do know K-Drama used it on his album Boombaptism don’t freak this isn’t a bad thing at all because the beat is still it’s own and Nomis kills it.

“The Legacy” brings well known emcee Blame One on the track and it just helped me think of a message that I heard saying that every single of one of us will leave a legacy when God calls us home no matter what. What do you want yours to be? Both emcees rap about the legacy that they want to leave through the words that they speak. I rotated this track so many times on my first listen of the EP (which explains why it took me so long to write this review).

Of course after listening to “The Legacy” a billion times, my ears were blessed with “Nobody” which is my second favorite track on the EP. Life is struggle, we come into the world as sinners and with being held back by our human thinking. Nomis tackles the struggle of life in this track and brings along Cas Metah (of Scribbling Idiots) and Deadmanwalking (who was on Cram Session 5 ß if you don’t have that yet, go get already it’s amazing). All three mesh real well on this track and for those who don’t know who Deadmanwalking is (I didn’t know till after hearing Cram Session 5) listen to this track he’s real nice with it.

Nomis ends the Rosario Dawson EP on an extremely LOUD note, in the best way possible. “On Behalf Of The Slienced” is my favorite track on this EP and is one that everyone should be able to relate to. This track reminds me of the past work Nomis has done, the production fits the track perfectly and the message is even better. We live in a very dark world and we don’t hear a lot about the darkness in it. This is what I love about Nomis, he conveys his thoughts so clearly that you can’t help but listen and be moved by what he says.

The Rosario Dawson EP is in my opinion Nomis’ best work (though I haven’t heard the Gallery Drive album yet but on a solo tip this is the best) no joke. I always said that Nomis just needed better beats and he would blow up and I was right. Nomis has never had a problem lyrically and the dude has stepped up his game yet again. The Rosario Dawson EP has everything in it, guests, production and nice lyricism. Nomis’ fans will love this Ep, however it lacked only one thing…..a verse dedicated to TreyQuel (he’s done on two projects what happened to it). Anyway go download the EP it’s free and should have people psyched for whenever the Everyday Hero decides to release a full LP!
