Nonaseye

At first glance the name Nonaseye makes little sense. It is in fact an acronym for the words NO NAme SEven Years; a predicament that the founding members sat with whilst starting out on a farm near Brits in the Northwest. When James Donnelly and Charl van der Westhuizen went to the UK in the early millennium, the name came naturally.

Nonaseye, since then, had a lineup and instrumental changes and as a unit today delivers the soothing vocal melodies and unique vocal quality in the form of front man James Donnelly. Equally adept in delivering a powerful vocal performance and navigating his hands around his guitar, he also lyrically suggests intelligence. Thought provoking inquiries into life, the universe and everything are embedded in the songs he writes.

Sharing the womb with James and delivering low frequency stimulation is Daniel Donnelly. Walking bass lines coupled with melodic hammers, plucks and slaps makes him a master at interpreting song structure and syncopation. Daniel shares his brother’s love for music and the influence it has on everyday life.

Completing the founding trio of Nonaseye is Charl van der Westhuizen. Complimenting the lines from Daniel’s bass guitar, Charl blurs the line between the guitar as an instrument and an emotion evoking device. One cannot help but get blissfully lost in the synergy created emotionally and musically between Charl and Daniel

The backbone of Nonaseye comes in the gargantuan form of Wicus Burger. Constantly pushing the boundary in groove interpretation, his litheness allows him to create an unique sound signature for every song. By fusing the synergy between all 4 members, he forms an integral part in the distinctive wall of sound created by Nonaseye.
