Who: Hailing from Baldwin, Non Stop To Cairo is a six-piece band with a mission, according to the band's members: to rock hard, have fun, and revitalize the Long Island music scene.

The Artists And Their Sound: Non Stop To Cairo is truly a band for the people. Winners of the recent Long Island Music Festival, their eclectic sound is a result of the band members' diverse musical backgrounds and interests, and as they state on their MySpace page, they sound like "nothing [and], everything."
The sextet is made up of singer August Harris, guitarist and vocalist Nick Diamond, bassist Matt Ezzo, percussionist Dave Bartlett, trombonist Andrew Haggerty, and on guitar, synthesizer, and saxophone they have multi-tasker Anthony "Tone" Ramirez. The six have known each other for years after growing up in the same town in Long Island, but initially they all followed different musical paths before coming together in the last six months and forming Non Stop To Cairo as it is now.
Ezzo and Diamond, who have known each other since kindergarden, had been playing together in a jam band for years prompted by father James Diamond gifting his son a guitar one Christmas, fondly recalled by Diamond as "the best present from Santa." His father taught them the blues, and Ezzo says that this "started it all." After honing their skills at their first rehearsal space in the Diamond residence, they joined forces with drummer Bartlett, who had been playing in the group 30 Pack Jack, and played as a trio for a year. THis changed after an unfortunate accident at work damaged Diamond's hand, and left the three looking for others to temporarily help out and fill in the musical gap as he recovered. This twist of fate led to Haggerty, Harris, and Ramirez leaving their other musical ventures and joining Non Stop. The three original members felt that their new bandmates added so much to their sound that they decided to keep them around. "It all started to click," said Ezzo. "Sometimes it has to fall apart to make it better in the end." Diamond continued. Adding new people to the band meant further diversifying their sound as a group, and at the same time challenged them musically as individuals.
Currently the band is writing songs and preparing to go into the studio and the end of October to record an album that will feature new original songs along with re-recorded versions of previously released material from their self-titled EP. In the meantime, Non Stop is doing what they love most: playing shows and sharing its music with audiences. Bartlett says that playing live shows allows them to "see the result of their music" and feed off of a crowds energy. With an ultimate goal to create music that has something that appeals to everyone, the band feels that their shows "should be a party, fun."
The six members of Non Stop To Cairo really are in it for the music. While content writing music together and playing to new fans, their dream is to get signed to a record label and support themselves with their music. However, guitarist Diamond admits that if it doesn't work out, "I'd be happy to be 30 years old still playing Long Island scene shows." If the band's recent win at the Long Island Music Festival is any indication, Diamond shouldn't worry - it's working out.

Bio

Nonstop to Cairo is a six piece Alternative Rock/Reggae band from Long Island, New York. Consisting of a life long friends forging their place in the world of music. After a line up change in early 2009, Nonstop expanded their sound with additional guitars, vocals, and a horn section to create a style all its own. That style has led to a constantly growing fan base and a world of opportunities. Nonstop had the privilege of being voted the best band of Long Island in the Long Island Music Festival as well as being featured in the press and on Internet radio. One such honor was being featured in a cover story on Long Island's Good Times Magazine. They've performed with larger acts including The Wailers and War. Also, Long Island's own Badfish. They've been featured at The Millennium Music Conference, The Brooklyn "Walk for life", The Rhythms of New York Television Show and The Great South Bay Music Festival. Newsday.com's coverage of The Great South Bay Music Festival was accompanied by the Nonstop to Cairo song "Hair Down" and clips from their performance. With a solid base and nothing but the sky as their limit, there's no telling how far they can go. There are hundreds of reasons this band is as liked as they are, but the number one reason is simply; Nonstop to Cairo makes a great time even better.
