Noona

BandAlternativeSinger/Songwriter

Nicole's sound switches from acoustic singer/songwriter to alternate rock. Lyrics are reflective of personal experience blended with fiction addressing a range of topics including addiction, gambling, lust, lost love, inner city development, hope, regretfulness, commitment and modern day living.

Biography

Nicole began songwriting in April 2004 under the direction of World Music icon Chrisse Feros. In June 2005 Nicole submitted lyrics for the first time into The Song of The Year competition and received a runner up award. In August 2005, she received first place in the 'lyrics only' category. Mainly influenced by other female singer/songwriters Nicole draws inspiration from the likes of Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Emiliana Torrini, Martha Wainwright, Norah Jones and a host of Australian artists such as Missy Higgins, Sarah Blasko and Katy Steele.

Nicole boldly writes about her outlook of the world and her lyrics make no apologies for saying it how it really is. They take a perspective of a harsh reality and mix with it a good dose of hope with melodies to match. Her diverse sound moves from angry rock to soft acoustic melodies to dark electronic keyboard and back again. A variety of sounds capture the mood and emotion of each individual song which is written from every day, personal and real life experiences.

Nicole's sweet but raw vocals and melodies are littered with true emotion.

What We've Realised

Written By: Noona

What we’ve realized is the world’s too short
And the day’s too long
Before you knew there was the recorded song

Don’t take the money don’t risk it any further
When you saw your ego coming
Did she invite you along?

The fire is outside and it’s keeping you warm
The obvious answer is keep your charm
Translation is approaching set your alarm

Anymore things that you can think of
Make your demands - the saviour’s a cheat
Abrupt conversation’s a lonely survivor
I think I’ll go somewhere where I am alone

What we want is less than we imagined
To carve the path is trapped in confusion
There’s nothing more than an attractive treat
Tomorrow it dies but today it’s a sweet

I’m scattered up in riddle and rhyme
Like a ribcage or the ripples on the beach
The clouds pass one another in the sky
They’ll never be the same ... to change is to teach

The Meaning of Simplicity

Written By: Noona

I didn't mean to do it
But it was meant to be
If you believe in philosophy
So men like women in uniform
That's no reason
For me to join the army
I'm hanging on to the mystery
Waiting for you, waiting for me

I don't want it
I just need it
I can't ignore
I need to be
Your lover
To discover
The meaning of simplicity

Will you think of moments
When you thought you might not
Ever love another?
Can you put my face in your fantasy?
Cross the lines
And go under the cover
Working on but we're breaking down
Fixing the errors and fixing frequency

I don't want it
I just need it
I can't ignore
I need to be
Your lover
To discover
The meaning of simplicity

Coming Clean

Written By: Noona

I made my point
Like a full stop
And I dived right in
Like a belly flop
I'm rotten like
All of the fruit in the corner shop
But that's the way that it is
When I'm all you got

I'm coming clean
with all my secrets
I want to see
If you can keep them
Too controversial
For me to speak them
I'm coming clean with all my secrets.

In a split second
I could split an atom
For what I say I keep apologising
And if you were a grenade
I'd pull the pin on you
Cos that's that way that it is
But I've only got you

I'm coming clean
with all my secrets
I want to see
If you can keep them
Too controversial
For me to speak them
I'm coming clean with all my secrets.

Maybe I should put a stronger filter on my thoughts?
I can't go back and edit after they have been voiced
Shall I consider the consequences
For what I say I can't keep regretting.

This Is Why (I'm Running Away)

Written By: Noona

I asked a question
about the future
It seems you're all in the picture
I hope it suits you
but I'll disappoint you

We've got no need
for complications
cos we've arrived at inspiration
You want commitment
But I won't admit it

This is why I'm going
This is why I'm hiding
This is why I'm running
I'm running away.

I won't dispute it
I thought you were through it
Who needs to know all their statistics?
I negate the points
And I am the critic

Still got some time
for navigation
I want it all not just a fraction
Still want commitment?
Give me a reason

This is why I'm going
This is why I'm hiding
This is why I'm running
I'm running away

Answered a question
about your presence
And I got it wrong
In every instance
There's a place and a crime
And I think I've done my time

Don't need a saviour
Nor a leader
Just one fool
To preach good behaviour
We can't lose all the time
But I bet we'll give it a try

Fall Apart Again

Written By: Noona

I checked the letter box today there was a letter
It was from you friend, a postcard about the weather
Your holiday destination
Didn’t turn out how you were expecting

Oh why why why?
Can’t I think of a way to get you off my mind?

Chorus I got my life together just in time to see it fall apart again
And I remember the last time I said good bye to that old friend
I said when I was younger that I thought there was an end
Now I know we’re in the middle and we’ll fall apart again

Your letter said the sun doesn’t shine and I wonder
To what you’re referring perhaps you're cursing me
You’re on your way to a new town
The locals are friendly and the lager is brown

Oh why why why?
Can’t I think of a way to get you off my mind?

Break: Everything you do comes back to you
Everything you do
Look at me, look at you, we’re dying proof,
we're dying proof

The Old Photos Of You

Written By: Noona

The Old Photos Of You

We'll have parties with your memories

And put them in pretty dresses

Like we're going to church on Sunday

But not only for your confessions

I’ll give your words to your children

They will know what to do with them

Everything old is replaced with something new

And the thing that I'm not looking forward to

Is going through the old photos of you

When the day comes we'll block off the streets

And everyone shall be standing on their feet

Saluting you and what you have achieved.

I've seen the best when you've been your worst

Your bad behaviour is what I love most

But for you it remains an endless curse

Everything old is replaced with something new

And the thing that I'm not looking forward to

Is going through the old photos of you.

*Alternative Chorus:

Everything old is replaced with something new

And the thing that I AM looking forward to

Is smiling at the old photos of me and you.

There's no need to wish you were better than you were

In time you will return to the pure Earth

And you will see the end of your curse

I'm The One

Written By: Noona

How can I be sad on a night like this
When everything smells like summer?
What a night I’ve had on a night like this
Taking garbage out to the gutter

All the people in their houses
Upon their washing line they hang their trousers
Oh they don’t know what I’ve been through
They don’t know how much I miss you

chorus:
I am the one who loves you
I am the one who loves you
I’m the one…
I am the one
Young and lonely I can’t stand it
This is not the way I planned it
I’m the one…I am the one
I’m the one who loves you
I’m the one who damn-well loves you
I’m the one who loves loving you

How drunk I am on a night like this
But how I’d like to be drunker
I think I’ll call my friend on the telephone
Even though I know it won’t make me feel any better.

All the humour that I ever had
Was wasted on you and now I want it back
I should have known
what I’d go through
I should have known
I should have just known

Every Day

Written By: Noona

Every day I struggle to stay sober
Every day just blends into another
Every day there is never enough time
Every day I imagine you are mine

Every day there’s not enough hours in the day
Every day I gotta get out of the rat race
Every day I try and find a new escape
Every day I raise my glass and say cheers

Chorus: We’re all in the same boat and it aint no
Contiki tour that’s for sure

Every day I know I should learn something new
Every day I know I got too much to do
Every day I know I gotta call my mother
Every day I forget I’ll do it tomorrow

Every day I’m wishing new love was coming near
Every day I work to pay off the debts
Every day I look forward to the next pay check
Every day I feel alone part of a crew but on my own

Every day I realise I got it good
Every day I’ve got enough on my plate including food

Break:
Some people are happy to accept their life
Others have nothing but struggles and strife
But me I want something more
Something better than
what I had before

The Best I've Ever Had

Written By: Noona

At the moment I’m trying to see things differently
There’s an old man at the left hand side of me
And he’s watching
And he’s guiding
And he’s saying I’m so, so tiring

A crooked finger and I’ve been out on a limb
Some feelings linger but I know they shouldn’t be
And I’m moving
And it’s better
And the times are changing quicker than the weather

No time to stop
And regress and count what I haven’t got
Too many blessings under one disguise
We’ve got to make the most of the finest life

Can you help me execute with precise precision
Can you help me make the right decision

Things are really getting better
They were never all that bad
All this time I knew
I’ve got the best I ever had
