"Nora Whittaker, a quick clip"

Nora infuses her songs with passion, humor and grace. Whether touching on the embittered fervor of a heated break-up, or highlighting the haunting turmoil of pitfalls of ambition, Nora speaks to her audience with candor and honesty, all the while peppering her stories with contagious laughter and thoughtful insights. And while you are listening to her brassy, soulful belt, you may suddenly realize that other people's secrets may be your own as well. - Kate Brennan, freelance writer

"Open Mike Monitor Online Featured Performer Dec.2003-Jan.2004"

Nora Whittaker delivers songs that are well crafted....a natural performer with excellent stage presence; the ability to play her instrument (keyboard; and wonderful vocals. If that's not all, Nora has an independently produced CD that is one of the best I have heard in a long time... - Ray Naylor, Open Mike Monitor Online

Bio

Philadelphia-based Nora Whittaker was kicked out of ballet class at the age of three because she wouldn’t listen to the instructor. The teacher was exasperated when she found Nora “making up her own stuff” in the corner. It was very, very modern. After struggling with acute stubbornness and many failed attempts at “real art,” Nora began concentrating her efforts on crafting other people’s stories and secrets into jazzy, soulful songs.

Since early 2002, Nora has performed in venues throughout the tri-state area and other places on the East Coast. These venues include colleges and universities, clubs/bars like Dogfish Head Brewing Co.; as well acclaimed “all-ages” venues like The Point and Steel City Coffeehouse. (Specific list available)

Nora has opened for a variety of artists including: Amos Lee (Blue Note Records) The Love Syndicate, and McGowan (on-tour internationally with Ben Lee). Her music has been played on college radio stations and programs like 88.1 Bethlehem’s “The Blend”. CD 'Other People's Secrets' (2003) produced by The Love Syndicate.

Nora's influences include Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Radiohead and Patty Griffin. Currently, performers as varied as Outkast and Alison Krause are some of Nora's favorites...although they are said to have absolutely no influence on her music. You can be the judge!
