Bio

NORTH CAPE - is one of not as many music bands fascinated by the a cappella sea songs, who express it consistently and without any redundant effects.

Throughout the years of activity the band has evolved and developed the original style and sound. It also worked out the respect for the abilities of one the of the greatest instruments of all: the human voice. The group was founded in the city of Pszczyna in the mid 1995. The founding fathers were Łukasz Malcharek and Michał Mrozik. At the beginning their works were oriented around shanties and own songs performed in a shantey style. Folk and gospel standards enforced the group's repertoire in mid 1996. At the same time the musicians started to achieve first artistic success. After the successful debut during the "Sari '96" in Żory, NORTH CAPE has performed, for the first time, for one and a half thousand music fans in "Spodek" (Katowice) during "Tratwa" festival and the musicians were granted the Prize of the City Council of Katowice. More success came by during the twelveth "Mini Shanties" in Stalowa Wola and "Bezan '97" in Tarnów which they have won. Since 1997 NORTH CAPE has played lots of concerts all over Poland and collected a lot of prizes, henceforth established a strong position among the top performers of classic shantey. At the turn of 1998 and 1999 the band recorded their first full length album "Szanty i pieśni morza a cappella" (The Shanties and Sea Songs A Cappella) released on a tape via JoterMusic label. Since that time the musicians have broadened their repertoire by adding popular music standards, performed a cappella only.In the late summer of 2002 another longplay was released - "Pieśni spod żagli" (Songs from under the Sails), consisting of shanties and songs sometimes originated in quite exotic places of the world. Ian Woods, the great English chantyman appeared as a guest singer in a few songs. The album was premiered during the summer edition of the "Port Pieśni Pracy" festival in Tychy. In 2003 the band appeared on TV: in Nina Terentiew's show "Bezludna Wyspa" (Desert Island) as well as gave a concert due to 650 years of the city of Olsztyn.Since 2007 the band have played a few concerts because of lots of other non-artistic activities they were involved in. Thus the musicians decided to held up the activity. Hence the singers started to migrate to other Silesian shantey groups.Autumn 2010 succeeded with a rebirth of the band in a new line up. The latest CD of our band, "A'cappella dookoła świata" (A'cappella around the world) constitutes a summary of our musical activity. It premiered on 25th May 2013 during "Kubryk" Festival in Łódź and is an attempt at new view on a'cappella music. It has been eighteen years so far and the band still worship the most precious instrument - human voice. Despite of the rich instrumentation all of the compositions are performed on five voices only, without the help of any instruments.
