Biography

North of Here’s sound—strangely familiar, yet wholly unique—something old yet something new. Dynamic harmonies and melodic hooks combine with intimate musical arrangements to make North of Here’s music timeless, ageless, and melodically relentless.

“Our Mission on earth is simple, to love others as he loved us, because he First loved us. Our focus should not be on what is temporal, but on that which is eternal. We do all this by daily turning our hearts and minds upward to Our Creator away from our present circumstances—North of Here”-north of here

It is through this focus on the eternal that North of Here could no longer ignore the cry of their generation, the longing for something real, something authentic, something unfailing. It is in response to this that the band’s music reflects their own personal struggles with fear, longing, and desperation. Their song is one of grace, joy, and most of all, one of triumph. It is through this art that North of Here feels they can depict truth and love in a way that transcends culture, circumstance, and even language.

In November of 2005, North of Here partnered with Mission of Mercy, an organization whose vision is unified with the band’s passion:

“Our Vision: To see the children of developing nations, who live in poverty, experience transformation and wholeness through God's love.

Our Mission: To equip children in developing nations to reach their God-given potential by creating opportunities for spiritual, physical, social, mental and emotional development.” –missionofmercy.org

In May of 2005, North of Here was crowned winner of 97.3 KISS FM's Battle of Bands in Savannah, GA. Music by North of Here is featured on the event compilation album and their song “Dare You to Dream” has been featured on 97.3 KISS FM.

In July of 2005, North of Here was selected to perform on February 6, 2006 at New York City's Songwriter's Circle held at the Bitter End: "One of the best showcases for original music in New York City"...Billboard Magazine.

North of Here's "Still Small Voice" and "Linger" are now being played on several online radio stations including Indie 104 iradio LA, Band Radio, Acoustic Fuel Radio, Indieheaven Radio, Buzz Music Radio and many more.

Still Small Voice

Written By: Jeff Sanders

i've seen the rise and i've seen the fall
of the dreamers inbetween these curtain calls
desperate times call for desperate measures
one more quick fix convenient disaster

cowering under the weight of the years
a warm safe place to hide these fears
then onto the next looking over your shoulder
turning around to find that your heart's grown colder

and the still small voice inside of me
is calling now
to wrestle with truth when doubts unseen
are falling down

don't run, don't hide
don't say, goodbye
my love, will lift you up

careful my son where you look to find answers
there words like poison do feed this cancer
while the fortunate ones find the straight and the narrow
a chance for the chancers losing hope in tomorrow

leaning over ledges to see all the eye steals
the wound untended grows and never heals
i could run, i could walk away
but i'd carry it with me for the rest of my days

Someone to Listen

Written By: Jeff Sanders/North of Here

Someone to Listen

all she needs is an ear to bend
someone with some time to lend
she's not looking for advice
though a friend might be nice
cause it's too cold at home
she talks to herself so she want be alone
not even good intentions
could take the place of someone to listen

so take the stones from your pockets and leave them on the ground
take up your cross without a sound
don't you know she's got to want to be found,
and if that's what it takes

then it's a precious silence when there are no words
a precious silence when there are no words to say
when there are no words to get in the way

don't you know she spends most of her days
half hurt and half amazed
at the strangers she calls friends
and oh how fare the weather's been
don't you know we've got to stop all this talking
or they're gonna think it's all we're offering
you know she needs someone
we all need someone to listen

Until There Was You

Written By: Jeff Sanders/North of Here

bitter times are angry
bitter times are scared
and in between the envy
i seldom feigned to care

i was lost, lost, until there was you

all i saw were colors
and the colors all were red
and all that uncovered
was up inside my hide

i was lost, lost, until ther was you

the fears seemed never ending
and it was more than i could hold
never been all that good pretending
and i felt like letting go

i was lost, lost, until there was you

until there was you afraid of tomorrow
until there was you afraid of today
i could not beg, steal or borrow
reason enough to stay

Linger

Written By: Jeff Sanders/North of Here

It's over my head, under my feet
Strange to see your breath, steal the color from your cheeks
How the weight did fall, like a crown upon my head
I can hear the sirens call, loud enough to wake their dead

Time can linger all it wants and there's no sight, sound,
even when no one's around, and I'm held captive by the thought of you and still,
half a world away

Can I see beyond this wall, past the quick and the dead
and the voice inside us all, past the light the turns my head
I've been here before, want to be hear again
With my hands to my head and a peace setting in

Time can linger all it wants and there's no sight, sound,
even when no one's around, and I'm held captive by the thought of you and still,
half a world away
