"Fantasize Local"

With a tumbler of rye in hand is the best way to confront a set from a local roots act, so be sure you've got one for this potentially unsettling news. Effective next week, the five-piece Americana group THIS WAY will go on hiatus while band members Jay Basiner and Andrew Martelle shift their energies into their outlaw country act NORTH OF NASHVILLE, who finish up their debut live record this week (northofnashville.bandcamp.com). The boys do double duty one last time this Saturday at the Big Easy, as both acts play with the GHOST OF PAUL REVERE at 9 pm.

"10 Bands to Watch in Maine"

“North of Nashville started as a side project for the two principal members of the Portland-based Americana band This Way. But the duo of Jay Basiner and Andrew Martelle has proven so successful that they’ve shuttered This Way and are concentrating solely on North of Nashville, a cross between Waylon Jennings and Mumford & Sons. During the winter, the duo played sold-out shows in Brooklyn, N.Y., and a nearly sold-out show in Boston. They’re touring across Maine and the region through May, and will release their first full-length CD, “Live @ the Rack,” this week. As the title suggests, it was recorded at the famous Sugarloaf hot spot.” - Portland Press Herald

Bio

"North of Nashville is an act you have to see to believe. As performers, Andrew and Jay do more than acts with 5 members, and they do it amazingly well. And their songs are just as great. Country music with melodies and twist that go straight to your soul. These guys are the real deal"
- Matty Jeff, Brand Manager WPOR 101.9FM

North of Nashville delivers a driving and true taste of heartland music. The Country/Americana duo keeps one foot planted in tradition and the other in a wild and lawless territory of American Roots Music. Whether you're a Country fan or not, it's a good bet you've never seen anything like North of Nashville in any direction of Music City.

Armed with the lean thump and swagger of mid-70's outlaw country, a relentless live energy, honest and memorable songwriting and a sound seemingly too big to be accomplished by just two musicians, North of Nashville is an experience all its own.

In February of this year, 'Live at The Rack', which was recorded at the famed Sugarloaf Mountain venue in December 2012, was released to wide fanfare. Since then, NoN has continued a steady flow of new music released as singles online through iTunes, Spotify, YouTube and all the other usual suspects.

In addition, from roughly 2008 - 2012, Jay and Andrew performed in the 5 piece alt-country act, This Way, which was also based out of Maine. This Way, released three albums which are currently available on iTunes and was nominated for “Best Folk, Country and Roots Act” by the 2012 New England Music Awards. The band performed at festivals and toured all over the Northeast and down the East Coast as far as Nashville.

--

In the past few years NoN members have graced many Northeast outdoor stages including KahBang (main stage), Camp Creek, Old Port Festival, LL Bean and Maine State Pier, along with supporting nationally touring acts G. Love & Special Sauce, Lake Street Dive, Churchill, Mason Jennings, Jerrod Niemann, Enter the Haggis, Uncle Kracker, Chatham County Line, Phil Vassar, Max Creek, Moses Atwood, Eric Paslay, Brothers Osbourne and Chris Stapleton to name a few.
