North Stars

The Hip Hop trio North Stars are best described with one word; illuminating. They have been said and considered by many in the local music scene to be among the hardest working and most professional performers in Northern Minnesota in any genre. Based in Bemidji, MN the group consists of two brothers Jimmy “Tha Cut” & Jon “Wreckless” Tate and childhood friend Drew “Soco” Curry.
Their music is influenced by hip hop, reggae, and rock to name a few. Using vivid lyricism and memorable, conceptual choruses their music is industry ready. With songs like “Bo”, “From The Ground Up”, and “Every Dolla” they display combinations of lyrical ability, catchy hooks, and conscious substance. Simply put, North Stars are classic songwriters. Drawing from the roots of rural life, they have progressed their focus of music to the masses. Their crowds have had consistently large turnouts producing a broad fan base.
The group officially formed in Spring 2010 with 5 members. All 5 members prior to forming were active in the local music scene. They felt ironically, their different styles, experiences, and energies would be a good blend together.
Their first performance together was with Pledge Empire Records at Terminal Bar in Minneapolis, MN in Summer 2010 as an opening act. The show was a success and inspired them to furthering their future as a group. The Blue Ox Bar in Bemidji, MN gave them an opportunity to showcase Oct. 2010 for the first time which brought in more than 200 people. They continued performing at local establishments steadily bringing in crowds by the hundreds. This prompted an invite to perform at the “Up & Coming” show at the Red Sea in Minneapolis. The show was a contest for new talent from all around Minnesota in which North Stars won. Shortly after, the group parted with 2 members, leaving 3 members remaining. Their work ethic and motivation became more intense making music a full time job for the three.
They released the self titled album “ The North Stars”. Their second album “Auroraura” was released In July 2011. It is currently being digitally distributed on various online sites (Itunes, Zune,Rhapsody, etc.). Their third album in a year, “1st City Mixtape” was released in January 2012. Volume 2 is set to be released Sept. 7th. They have performed in every variety of venue, festival, or music event.
Due to their local credibility & regional notoriety they have performed with accomplished artists and industry bests like Robb G of Equator Line Records, Tech N9ne of Strange Music, Kutt Kalhoun, Krizz Kaliko, Jay Rock, Flawless Real Talk, Bone Thugs & Harmony, Skatterman, Lil Wyte, Tone Trump, & more.
