Bio

Hurricane Katrina broke up numerous bands in the New Orleans area; this allowed four displaced musicians to come together in early 2008 to form Nothing Solid. These talented musicians hailed from Norco to Chalmette with musical influences ranging from Incubus to Pantera, Tool to Mudvayne, and Deftones to Rage Against The Machine. They play what they feel, whether its rock, metal, blues, even if it’s a little popish. If it sounds good it is good.
Rene has had a guitar in his hands since he was merely eight years old. Classically trained and influenced from many different musical styles, Rene is naturally diverse in his playing. At 15 he started his first garage band, and got his feet wet writing music. Playing shows and jamming with other musicians, he sharpened his skills. In time, he and Mike started a new kind of band, Nothing Solid. Mike fell in love with music in 6th grade when he was a snare drummer in the school band. By the age of 15 he wanted to learn to play bass but had no teacher. That’s where Rene stepped in teaching him the fundamentals of the instrument. Ever since they have been mixing rhythms together to create their unique sound. After piecing together a few solid songs, Travis came into the group providing melodic vocals. Travis was born into a musical family; His father and uncles had been playing music since the 70’s so it was only natural that he took an interest in performing. As a kid he learned piano and was selected to participated in the school district’s honor choir with no real vocal training. His musical identity started to form during his teenage years. He discovered many genres and began to write and sing in local bands. His love and appreciation for music and his singing songwriting have only grown with time. The only missing piece for the trio was a drummer. Paul got his first drum set at 5 years of age. He played on it till it was nothing but a pile of trash, then he resorted to buckets and old cymbals. In 1999 he got his Pearl set that he has today. Coming from a long history of musicians since the 1920’s he has never had any lessons or training as a drummer, it’s already in his blood.
One innovative band, four driven musicians, and infinite possibilities…
