Originally formed in 2006 as a melancholy guitar/keyboard combo, Not Made In China have since blossomed into the vibrant afro-beat tinged pop quartet we know and love today. Based around the song-writing partnership of Tiff Wheaton Green and Gavin Blackhall, their intelligent lyrics slot perfectly in between bouncing bass lines, uplifting rhythms and catchy, Johnny Marr-esuqe guitar melodies. Songs such as “Why?” and “The Rat Race” display the wit of Morrissey but delivered with the warmth and innovation of Paul Simon.
Hailing from Bournemouth, NMIC are currently playing gigs up and down the country so if you want them to come to your town and ask nicely enough, chances are they’ll do it.
Their 2010 self-titled EP is available now on iTunes, Spotify and good old fashioned CD, while the follow up (tentatively titled Not Made In China Two) will be out soon through all good musical outlets (and some rubbish ones too!) (Ollie Mutter)
