Not Quite Punk - The N Idaho music scene - An interview on the N Idaho Arts radio show

Not Quite Punk. Not Quite Punk. What do you think of when you hear the words "Not Quite Punk?"

You think of punk. Well, they aren't. At least, not quite. The local group, Not Quite Punk was one of the bands I saw at the Bash for Cash concert last month raising funds for charity at the Panida Theater. Their music ranges from Jazz-abilly, Blues, and kind of a jazzy, blues, rock that is their own style.

I have hosted the North Idaho Arts & Adventure radio show on KSPT and KBFI for the last five years, and this band was on my show this Tuesday at noon. At the Bash for Cash several groups performed. The premier group was another local band: Illusion 33. Illusion 33 started out doing local gigs, and I interviewed them two years ago. Within a year of founding, Pat Ficek did this great video of them, and now they are in Canada recording their first CD for a national label.

I think Not Quite Punk will have the same success.

When they started, they used to play a tune, then for the next song, they would pass whatever instrument they were playing on to the next band member, song after song. Pretty versatile. They since have opted to play their strongest instrument, and got to tell you, they are good.

The band members are Brian Grise, Thomas Walsh, Myles Lawson, Reese Warren, and Paz Rainbow, but they started out as a trio only nine months ago.

They will be playing at the Panida Little Theater again Friday, January 22nd, but that isn't the only place you can here this progressive, yet curiously familiar sounding cool band.

Upcoming gigs are at the Coldwater Creek Wine Bar January 29th, Eichardt's Pub & Grill February 4th, and their CD release party in February 27th.

Bio

Never sure what to call this genre -- rock, blues, jazz, funk -- but it is hot and people love it. Brian Grise, song writer, was Influenced by early 20th century Jazz and Blues and Swing, but his writing is as modern as tomorrow.

Jazz, blues & rock, tempered with contemporary swing and fun. Then add a dash of metal and funk.

This is a unique, strong and vibrant sound, but constantly updated. We are driven to create, perform and improve.
