"The Gospel According to Hip-Hop"

Even those who claim to be born again don’t necessarily represent the Christian lifestyle the way Nova does on his debut CD, G.O.D Til I D.I.E. Self-released three months ago, the album is already receiving critical acclaim, winning “Best Holy Hip-Hop of the Year” award a the 2004 Gospel Choice Awards.

But Nova path hasn’t always been so straight and narrow. “I was sexing…and smoking and drinking and wilding out, you know what I’m saying,” he says, recalling his addiction to the lifestyle glamorized by mainstream hip-hop. “I got attracted to what I saw on TV and wanted to ride big. I wanted the fame, the money, the girls…all that stuff.”

Three years ago, Nova began attending New Birth missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Ga. and dedicated his life to the Lord. After attending a youth conference at church, Nova decided he “was going to try to do something to positively influence my whole generation,” he says. “I saw how mush of an influence [rap] can be on a lot of people, ‘cause it influenced me.”

His experiences can still be heard in his self-produced eight –song debut, but the lasting message resonates with life-affirming lyrics. It’s exactly the positive transition Nova hopes to spread to all his peers. “I’ve had a lot of chances to go to clubs and different places where they don’t expect to hear gospel rap and they’ve actually listened to it,” say Nova. “They go away with something that will take rot in their hearts and they can change their lives by.” - By Rodney Carmichael of Rolling Out Urban Style Weekly

And entertain he does, with head bobbing, foot stomping beats and memorable lyrics that continue to inspire and transform the spirit of listeners long after the music has stopped. Bobby Jones Show, for which Nova's ministry is gaining national and international recognition. Nova's music can be heard on holy hip-hop and contemporary gospel radio programs across the country.
